Don't think so. "Nearest" is Mexican. Useful site: http://www.basel-restaurants.ch/english/index.html

I know you wanted Basel, but there is one in Lausanne. I've never been so can't say if it's good. Maybe one day you can take day trip & let us know.

*beatch slapping Carlos R*
Back OT really I have not seen any in Basel so maybe the nearest is in Lorrach as a previous poster said, which makes me ask, why the groan?

EDIT: OK I get it, no information as to where the restaurant in Lorrach is...look here

Re: Argentinian restaurant in BAsel?

What is now the Lallekönig bar at Schifflände was once an Argentine place - not the best place in the world. The only one I know of is the Lörrach one I'm afraid.

Cheers,
Nick

Re: Argentinian restaurant in BAsel?

The steakhouse in Lörrach is best!
You should really go there, take tram 6 to Riehen Grenze and walk to Lörrach center and it's right there. A good steak will only cost about 25-30 euro.

I'm thinking that perhaps the groan was because of this:

Apparently the OP already knows of the one in Lörrach.

Glad to know others have enjoyed it, maybe I'll convince hubby to check it out sometime too. I get the feeling though that perhaps the OP was unimpressed.

the only prob i had with the one in lorrach is the extractor for the charcoal grill isnt very good so your clothes stink from the grill. apart from that the food was good. service was average.

Re: Argentinian restaurant in BAsel?

When I lived in the Netherlands there were quite a few of these places. I am guessing you don't get many in Switzerland because of the prohibitive price of large pieces of meat.

In desperation you could just buy yourself a large T-bone from a German butcher and grill it at home, and wash it down with the best bottle of Argentine Cabernet Sauvignon you can afford.

I rarely order steak in restaurants here.

Cheers,
Nick

Re: Argentinian restaurant in BAsel?

If you have a car, check out Gasthaus zum Adler in Schliengen, Germany. It is a 25 min drive from Basel. The portions are absolutely huge and the meat is incredible. Although not Argentinian, I was introduced to it by an Argentine who recommended it completely. I've been back many many times and I am always impressed (and full!)

If you have a car and are willing to bring decent wine and desert, I will cook for you for free at my place (I can grill a killer vacío, asado & chinchulines).
