Hi, I'm visiting Zurich for a concert at Hallenstadion in November (on a Saturday) and am trying to find somewhere not too fancy to book dinner before the concert. I enquired @ Hallenstadion and was explained the 90CHF set menu - unfortunately we're not fine diners, we prefer simply foods.
I have trawled through hours of websurfing and excluded most restaurants for one reason or another, except Zur Kathrin pizzeria.
google maps show it on the corner of Querstrasse 9 and Edisonstrasse opposite to the Orange phone shop & an import perfume shop (I think it's on the market square) But, I can't find any information about the restaurant and wonder if this has closed down since google took the photos?
If anyone could give me a little info about this place, what your opinion of the food is, could I get away with speaking english, opening times, contact info? The only other obvious place is the Rollis steakhouse, but that again is a bit too much for what I would like.
p.s. what day is the market on the square?

I live near there and have never seen it. A quick look around suggests it was where Cheyenne is now.

I'd go for Tres Amigos if I were you. You'll get a decent burrito and friendly service.

The markets are often on Saturday but pack away well before concert-starting times.

For a pizzeria, Santa Lucia at Schaffhauserstrasse 345 is good (very near Rolli's)

I just wondered as street view on google maps is so clear and it actually looked good - shame, I'll check out the tres amigos now.

Cheyenne, Rollis, Santa Lucia, Tres Amigos, Le Muh (in Swissotel) no problem speaking English in any of these places. There are lots of pizza places around too and I really can't see language being an issue.

Checked out the tip you gave me for Swissotel - Le Muh. The website looks good for the restaurant, only a lunch menu available online (noted it's german & english pdf) so I've emailed them for more info about dinner.
I really don't want to end up somewhere with my daughter (it is her 15th birthday) for her not to eat anything - she's more of a spag bol pasta/chicken burger kinda girl.
I guess tres amigos will hit the food mark, but it is expensive - 33CHF (£24) for chicken fajita's 8CHF (£5.70) for a corn on the cob??

Where ever I end up, I'll let you know how it was.

p.s. my concert is on the Sunday, so I'm hoping to catch the market anyway.

Swiss hotel actually do an excellent grill/BBQ as well and the price is pretty good. Otherwise if you cross over to the other side of the tracks, there is a Coop near Marriott. They got a pasta place that do a menu with drinks for around 20CHF. They cooked the pasta fresh with difference sauces. Plus the dessert is pretty good as well, a combo of coffee and desert for under 8CHF.

Do let us know where you have eaten as we would love to try it out as well!

Ok, I'm being a bit of a cheapskate , but if I had just forked out for a visit to Zurich and paid Hallenstadion ticket prices, then I would stick to getting food from the New York Food place across from Oerlikon station, or getting some noodles from the Hong Kong food place on Max Bill Platz (very close to Oerlikon station). Or Burger King
No booking required!
