Re: live music pub

We've been looking for the same thing is Basel for a year now .

Found a couple decent venues but wrong genre - very heavy stuff -- too heavy for me. Or too mellow - jazz like.

Re: live music pub

Don't know about Zurich, But Luzern has a few venues that give local bands time, along with international acts. Check listings, don't know of regular events.

Schuur - One of the bigger venues, Usually more indie, and they sometimes do a local bands special night, with a bunch of bands.
Sedel - Usually more punk, also do special nights featuring local talent.
Bar 59 - Indie/Dance, and excellent local DJs.
Bruch Brothers - Local bands in pub on a weekly basis, and jam nights.
Madelaines - Blues night first Thursday of the Month with local musicians.
Bar 58 - Tiny bar that somehow occasionaly crams some musicians in there.
JazzKantine - Sometimes have acts from the music school next door.

I'm sure there are a few more, Luzern is excellent for live music, but we don't get the bigger international acts.

Also there are a lot of small festivals in summer all over switzerland featuring local bands and can be worth checking out. I quite like the B-Sides Festival.

Re: live music pub

You might want to Try this

McGee's Irish pub, every second sunday.

It's more of a 'mixed bag' than any particular genre.

In addition to the random live music there is:

Good Food
Good Beer, (and surprisingly (and appreciated) for Zurich)
Good service

The live music scene in pubs isn't so great here....... and if it was, somebody would complain about the noise I guess.

However, I strongly suggest that people support what is here to help such events grow.

(everything starts somewhere)

Equally and oppositely....... McGee's pub is a great venue for some free "exposure" of the bands you do have.
(and would perhaps elevate the quality of the evening, making the venue and the night more popular in the long run)

"Chris" is the guy who runs the pub and is worth talking to.

The environment is 'intimate', but a lot of fun.

The equipment available I assume will depend on what you can arrange in advance.

Best to either go there sometime and check it out for yourself, or send Chris a PM (link here to Chris the Spoon)
