Amazed! I found a decent restaurant in Basel and it didn't cost 300 CHF

I am awful to go out for dinner with: I like good food, like to think I know good food and abhor paying for trash. Since moving here I have really found nothing better than acceptable standards without having to go top end.

So I was very pleasantly surprised at this place, The Birseckerhof

Really good grilled calamari, A ribeye steak (small but very tasty) decent wines by the glass including a Nebbiolo an pasta with a seafood sauce. All excellent and service was pleasant too. All in, dinner for two 160 CHF

you must have expensive taste if you're willing to pay chf 300 for yourself for one meal

Sadly getting something good here seems to be expensive. In Italy I don't have expensive taste and in the UK I don't have expensive taste

Anyway, I hope the post is useful to others

Thread header mentions nothing about a "meal for yourself"

Of course, if you try to eat in Switzerland. Why, when you live in Basel?
Go across the boder to France.

It was 160 CHF all in for two people. I was very happy with the quality and thought price was fair

Do I detect a trace of, is it irony?

Looking forward to trying out the suggestions in France. I can almost see my LDL count rise with the foie gras..mmmmmm
