my favorite pizza place in town is Michelangelo's in the Gertrudstrasse: http://zuri.net/adr/18089/restaurant...chelangelo.htm

it's a real italian place and it's not in the immediate vicinity from the HB (10 min on Tram 3, get off at Zypressenstrasse), so I'm not sure it's what you're looking for, but I figured I'd post it for further reference.

Their pizzas are the best (my italian colleagues rave about it), their service is very good and personal, and their prices very reasonable (17-25 CHF for a big pizza, if I'm remembering correctly). Only negative thing I can think about is the neon lighting in the place, not exactly the romantic venue you might have in mind for an anniversary.

Still the most authentic Italian as a consequence. Just don't tell the internet or it'll turn out like Miracle in Seefeld. (Once magnificent, now just very good).

Jimmy's in Kreis 6 has very good pizza and a cosy atmosphere. The university crowd go there for lunch, but in the evening there are mostly locals. The owner is really friendly and as it is the pizzeria's 17th anniversary, most pizzas and pastas are 17 francs.
I agree, Jimmy's is a place I regularly go to for an ambient environment, decent pizza, and budget prices. We always get a table, regardless of group size, and sans reservation. Plus, the owner and I are now chums and he throws in the odd free bottle of Wine/Grappa, that never hurts.

But for a treat, I'd head to Cucina (www.cucinarestaurant.ch) the best pizza I've had in Zurich. While this is a subjective comment, it beats Don Leone's, Santa Lucia, or Molino, hands down. Good service, nice wine, semi-chic, and very reasonable prices 18 - 30 Chfs for most entrées.

Is that the one where you have to enter through the back (i think the kitchen) There is no front entrance. Its also kind of hidden i think. If this is the place...then it is absolutely a great place

No, neither place has an entrance through the kitchen, Cucina has an entrance that skirts the kitchen (but it also has a separate front entrance). Jimmy only has a single non-kitchen entrance, here's a link to their place (pictures included for free! You're welcome)

We love Da Toni's in Ruschlikon. Great little Italian restaurant that never fails.

I've not been for ages - it is due another visit to compare against Bar Basso.

With the kitchen hygiene they had there a few years ago, you'd better make sure that bottle is still sealed when you get it
But the menu was always fun to decipher.
