| I've had lunch there a few times, and while the food tastes good the service leaves something to be desired.
Why can't they have table service? You have to line up to order, there's 2 lines so it's not clear which one to go to, pay for it ahead of time and tell them you're sitting at "the big table in the back" (they've recently added table numbers) - and what do you do if you want dessert and coffee? Take it all at once and the coffee gets cold? The decor is great, but I feel like the concept is lost and people who are trying to manage it don't have restaurant experience.
It could be one of the best places in Zurich to eat and have coffee if they changed their serving style. | |

I think it is all to do with overhead. If you have table service, the ration is around 6 tables per waiter, so how many more people they have to employ? can they afford to charge the same if they have table service?
I personally do not mind self service, as I can order and get what I want rather than wait for someone to come and take order. It might be the same amount of time but the feeling of "just 2 person ahead of me" than "I don't know where the waiter is and how long would this be now?" then you have to wait for someone to come and give you a bill!
with the customer service being bashed in CH so much, I actually think self service may not be a bad thing. I once was in a restaurant for a leaving do and we started at 7, some of us are late so 7:30 when everyone arrived. The waiter did not bother to come and ask for order until 8 (despite he taken the extra order for drinks), then the food did not appear until 8:30.. on and on.. took another half an hour to pay at the end because he cannot work out who has what. So for a school night that a meal taken 4 hours is crap.
