I know there are threads on Chinese restaurants in EF and these restaurants have been extensively reviewed and all.
However, many of these restaurants are Northern Chinese or hardcore mainland Chinese. I'm looking for Southern Chinese, Cantonese to be prescise so it's the cooking tradition from Guangdong province/HK. If you have been to Chinatowns in the US, UK, Canada etc, you know what I mean by Canto restaurants. The food is much better than the north, it has more flavour and more methods of cooking.
IMO, mainland food is very salty(shanghainese), greasy and plain(beijing and the provinces up there) and too spicy(sichuanese). Cantonese and Fujianese food are more balanced and more varied in terms of cooking.
Bring that tradition to Malaysia and Singapore and you'll find it upgraded to a higher level.
Beyond on Zollstrasse is Northern chinese fused with everything else....come on satay and tom yam? The abomination........
So any suggestions? I'm not expecting to find any but if one doesn't ask, one wouldn't know.
It is very sad there is no such thing as decent ethnic minority foods here in Switzerland, including Indian, Chinese, Korean etc. Especially ones who are authentic, decent quality AND not at astronomical prices. Misses Chinatown and Brick Lane in London.
I'm from HK originally and I must say my favourite restaurant here in Switzerland of all time is Angkor! It's not really cantonese but they do the sweet&sour stuff if thats what you are looking for....
But their portions are generous, really good quality and most important of all to a chinese....they have actually decent, proper jasmine rice! I love that place and we keep going back there every other week. Not to mention the decor is lovely too.
