OK fellow quaffers,

Talk of drinkies has made me ask a question I have been pondering for a while.: where in Zürich offers the best value cocktail experience ? I am not talking prententious 5* hotel bars, more a reasonably priced bar with ambience, a good range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to imbibe.

Many bars pay lip-service (sic) to provision of cocktails and the bartenders look confused even when you put to their drinks list...

Any recommendations will be appreciated...and investigated. (You should see my collection of pointed sticks and umbrellas).

Just to get things started, I had an exquisite Blue Lagoon in the Barfüss bar in the old town the other night, and a spiffing Screwdriver in the Boos bar (near Globus).

I'm not a drinker... well once a year except for wine with a formal dinner but I have to vouch for the frozen margherita's at Bohemia... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... could get me drinking once a week...

I like the strawberry margaritas from Desperado in Höngg...

You may class this as a 5 star joint (not sure judging by your shirt Friday night ) but I met the barmen (& girl actually) from the Carlton Bar (Bahnhofstrasse 41) at an exhibition a month or 2 back and they seriously know thier cocktails. Highly reccomended.

Yeah, I know the Carlton: its a bit too suit-dominated for my liking. As regards my shirt, you would believe the amount of hassle I have had over that shirt simply for introducing a bit of colour into the occasion. It has been described as a flowery field, or amoebas through a microscope. Paul Smith will be well impressed.

A mate of mine runs a cocktail bar in London and he get's the prize for the best cocktail names which includes a "Lewinski - (fruit and Baily's based ) - Fat & Fruity & Goes Down a Treat"

I remember a few years ago when Bill Clinton was coming to town, the Pizza-Blitz retaurant near Wiedikon had a huge scrolling LED display that could be seen from the train: "Try our new Lewinski pizza ! Much more tasty than Monika..."

Again, may be considered too quiet for your shirt, but the bar in the Blau Ente where you have your pre dinner drinkie does a fantastic Gin Martini, the Godfather of all cocktails IMHO.

So there's this brazilian bar, right...

I think that is more cock-tales than cocktails
