2 restaurant recommendations in Fribourg old town

Wanted to highlight a couple of places we dined at over the weekend. The 1st, Café du Paon, has been mentioned here before, but it is worth another heads up. Wife phoned up to book a table on Friday night, was told it was full but come along after 20:30 and see if any tables had become available. Duly turned up at 21:00, waited 20 mins and were seated. We'd hardly sat down before the waitress was asking for our order, so both went for mixed salad followed by filet de boeuf in taragon sauce. Salad arrived within minutes and was fresh and tasty. Main course also appeared rapidly and the steak was cooked to perfection (rare) and tender. Sauce was rich and tasty and the chips and veggies were excellent.
Total cost including 2 beers and 5(?) glasses of wine? 73.-. (Steak was only 23.-).

2nd place is Restaurant O Douro (just opposite the Paon, incidentally), a newish Portuguese restaurant. Went there for Sunday lunch with another family and had excellent prawns with chips; loads of prawns, tasty sauce and nice crisp chips. Daughter #2 had steak sure ardoise (hot granite) and it was enormous, daughter #1 had mussels. Friendly service, lovely setting and the bill for 8 people was 310.-.

Nice culinary weekend (with filet steak by our own hand in between )

I would definitely second Cafe de Paon!

Their "Fondue moitié moitié" is probably the cheapest in town (CHF 14) and is served with bread and potatoes.

Plus their absinthe parfait is, well, "parfait"!!

Can't go wrong....so long as you turn up before 21:30 (arrive later than that and the kitchen is closed and you will only be able to order cold food options).

Oh, and a place to definitely avoid; The Buddha Loft in Cormanon, Villars-sur-Glâne. Wife went there as part of a large group. Service was slow (1 waiteress for the entire place, and it's big), awful food (she said Pot Noodles were tastier) and incredibly overpriced; 6.- for a glass of wine (3.50 in Café du Paon).

Depends what you want to eat. Apparently the Douro has gone downhill since I posted this and any Portuguese tend to head to the Buffet de la Gare in Pensier for Portuguese-style cuisine.

Places like Crazy Wolf, Café Populaire and Cyclo Cafe are good for burgers (not tried the latter, but reports are good). Or try out Le Mondial for great sandwiches and salads; Café du Midi for steaks and fondue (even though the owner is an arse); Vietnam House for the obvious (very small, but great food and needs to be booked). The best Italian is apparently Bindella, but not been there years.
These are just some off the top of my head.

Thank you - have you (or anyone else) been to the Café de Paon recently? It sounded nice when you reviewed it a couple of years ago ..

No recently, but I hear it's still good.
And the Buddha Loft is no more, it is an Italian now, but not sure on the quality.
