I can sympathise with your cravings for Pho. It's one of my favourite meals.

Although there are a few "Vietnamese" restaurants in Zurich, I don't think they are authentically Vietnamese. Most of these places have Chinese, Thai and other food on the menu as well. Seriously, would you think you were getting real Italian food served in a Korean restaurant??

I make Pho about once a month and it normally involves a tiring but gastronomical excursion across Zurich to collect all of the ingredients. Though, it's well worth the effort to satisfy the craving, and I must admit that my Pho tastes darn good! On a recent trip to Paris, I ordered Pho from a Vietnamese restaurant, and I was surprised to find that I prefered my own cooking ...

Unless you want to make Pho yourself at home, you may have to find a substitute favourite dish in Zurich.

there's a good little viet cafe that serves pho at schmiede weidiokn. walk to migros, then to the bicycle shop and it's JUST around the corner. (i think that's on the corner of zentralstr). in winter it's packed, and in the summer, you can sit outside. you help yourself to tea out of the pots on the bench. . the pho is good, and costs about 17 -18 CH fr. but beware... sometimes, their summer rolls arn't as good as their pho....

I live in thailand for 2 years and loved their street nudel soup (cuey tiaw), its similar to the pho.

I'm going to Hanoi to try the real thing later this year <3

I recently found a new Pho place pretty close to Sternen Oerlikon called Asiaway at Schwamindingerstrasse 10. http://www.asiaway.ch/ Don't be fooled by the online menu--in the restaurant they call it Pho Bo, and it tasted similar to the Pho Bo I ate in 'Nam. Yum. I think it was better than the Petit Saigon restaurant in Wiedikon.

Additionally, there's a pretty cheap (I think about 14 CHF) on Josefstrasse, at the corner of Klingenstrasse (I think--I've passed it a couple of times but never been able to find it or the address online). I've never tried this one but it's just a tiny Asian take-away shop, looks promising.

By the way, would anyone like to share their Pho recipes? Sounds like a great fall cooking experiment.

Pho is one of my favourite dishes...the best one I had in Switzerland was at the restaurant close to Athleticum and Subway in Zurich (sorry, don't remember the address)....but if you google Subway's Zurich location, you shoudn't have any trouble finding it.

The best Pho soup in Zurich can be had at a little hole in the wall Vietnamese restaurant just across the street from Bahnhof Binz (3 stops from Zurich main station, direction Uetliberg).

I live here in Olten and I went to Dai Thanh Trung restaurant for Pho every Saturday. It costs 13 CHF /1 bowl if you want to try.
This place can't reach by the train thou.
I don't know the address but I can give it to you when I go there again on Sat.

if you are craving for thai street nuddle soup try thai corner (or something like that). it's around red light area in zurich. pretty near by ah hua. the food is good, the ambiance is crap, the surrounding is...mmmm how to put it. let's say i would go there only during daytime and not alone.

as for pho, there is a good viet restaurant "cho lon". but it's in geneva. so it doesnt count

IIRC that place was quoted on another thread. Very recommended then too. I found it during the Summer, but have not tried it yet. Now would be good, but it's a bit inconvenient to get to from the office (especially in this cold). But it has been a while, so I'll check directiosn again
