| | | Client Dinner Basel
Have a client dinner in Basel tomorrow. Any suggestions for place to go? Should be nice but not too 'stuffy'.
Can you give me an option for "money no object" (i.e. company will pay everything no questions asked) and "not outrageous" (i.e. my expense claims could be scrutinised) |

Stucki, for money no object. Amazing place
Trois Rois Brasserie for something more reasonable

Take your pick: http://www.basel-restaurants.ch/english/index.html
Upper end: Restaurant Bel Etage at the Teufelhof or Safran Zunft
Expensive: McDonald's - no, really! Have you seen the cost of a Big Mac!
Trendy/upper: Kohlmanns - essen und trinken - central, very convenient
Midrange and trendy: Atlantis - just off main drag so a walk from town centre (no more than 10 mins)
Very Swiss: Walliser-Kanne (slap bang in the middle) or Elsbethenstübli (a bit further up from Atlantis)
Spanish (& I think really nice, and not expensive): Tapas del Mar - Spalenburg
En guete!

I really like it here*: http://union-restaurant.com/
Not too pricey and nice and quiet in the week. Food was lush too last time we went
*the fact it's just down the road from us is a bonus

I know it's not technically in Basel, but have a car/company paying for taxi? Go here, about 15 min drive: http://www.auberge-saintlaurent.fr/s...ormations.html
7-course tasting menu for 85 euros and the food will be impressive (has a Michelin star), so you'll get both your requirements in 1 restaurant.

I really like rubino's, the food is fresh, seasonal and yumm, atmosphere relaxed, good, friendly service. It's located just around the corner from the Munster: http://www.rubino-basel.ch/ |

I would suggest this: http://www.acquabasilea.ch/
I had a few business lunches here and it is a central location.

The big problem with your request is 'not stuffy and not cheap' they're mutually exclusive.
Maybe http://www.birseckerhof.com/Start.html ?
or http://www.kunsthallebasel.ch/
or sternen-basel.ch

Ignore all the above suggestions go to http://www.uelibier.ch
That has just the right balance between Swissyness, good beer, good food and in a nice part of town.
Just be sure to book in advance.
