Yeah, this place sucks. I went there when there about 4 months ago and tried out the sampler plate and 2 of the 4 items were horrible.
Are you talking about this place? Tex-Mex restaurant in Interlaken named El Azteca.

It was not quite clear from your post.

I agree the little stand in Bern is quite good, they are located very near the old town area (close to barenplatz, there are all sorts of markets set up there, and till the winter hits they are open Tuesday, Thurs – Sat, then they are only open once a week, except for December when they are open Tues – Saturday).
It's not really authentic but it is flavourful. I've only tried the quesadillas as the tacos didn't look great, but they throw a great salsa rojo on it that has a nice bit of chipotle in it, quite tasty. They also sell real maiz tortillas, dried chillies (chipotle, red, and green, etc) and a variety of red and green sauces, and, of course, salsa valentina!!!
does the trick for lunch when another boring lunch is the only prospect.
no one who works there is Mexican though.
What I would LOVE to find is a good mole (Oaxaca kind), though sadly, I think this is outside the realm (and flavour preference) of Switzerland.
Indeed, the only real option is to make the food at home. We have had quesadillas the last 4 days (since I bought a kilo of tortillas….) we were seriously tortilla-deficient!

Anyone find tomatillos since moving here? I can only buy in Lausanne or Bern. I’d much rather use fresh than canned, as I can’t stand that thick liquid they preserve them in…

- I've heard of quite some swiss people who liked mole.. it is chocolate after all :P
-No I haven't found tomatillo, it would be good for salsa verde.
- I do quesadillas all the time, luckily el Maiz sells monterey jack

[Zurich] TexMex restaurants - reviews & ratings

You can buy tomatillos, poblano and serrano chilies at el maiz - all fresh but imported from Mexico. El maiz also makes their own queso blanco which is a good substitute for queso fresco, if you like chilies relienos (not sure about the spelling) I find that asiago and cheddar(like cathedral cheddar) are easier to get and work just as well in tacos, quesidillas, etc.

You can also get dried anchos and Mexican chocolate to make your own mole (I do a variant of mole poblano). I've also mixed spices into ground pork to make a sort of chorizo. Not bad.

I haven't had any decent Mexican in Bern. It would be better if they'd just switch the cheese...it's too pungent. I did have a half decent mole once in the makthalle in Bern, but it needed some heat.

We found a nice place in Zermatt with a Mexican chef...Cafe Snowboat. There are only a few Mexican items on the menu. In fact, Snowboat is incorrectly listed as an Asian restaurant on Trip Advisior. But it was good and the salsa is the best we have had in Switzerland...finally, some spice!

Tres Amigo in Zurich Oerlikon

I just was invited at the Tres Amigo for a nice mexican fajitas for my birthday. The place is packed on a tuesday evening, so we decided the food must be good. It was a real rip off and let down, next time I would take time to go to Desperados in Höngg for Mexican or Tres Kilos. Tres Amigos portions are very small, the meat and prawn presented, I could count the baby prawn or rather cocktail prawns,as there were around 7 pieces with a lot of veggies, to make the dishes look more. I ordered beef and there are around 8 pieces of meat with a ready made so called guacamole sauce. There is a youghurt sauce which is serve in a tiny small bowl. And the veggie for the fajitas are pickels. Meaning, they are not even fresh veggies but pickled veggies from the bottle. The price we paid each person for the food was around 40 Chf. Not worth the money, we were still hungry after our meal, the service is lousy. But the interior is well decorated in Tex Mex style.and by the way, don't order their home made hot fries, they give you 5 pieces of home made fries as an entre with a small drippings of yoghurt sauce for 7.50 CHF. Expensive patatas and you are definetely no longer mi amigos
