Re: Vietnamese Restaurant Zurich

There is a new one at the Badenerstrasse end of Langstrasse. Langstrasse 11 or 13. Not tested yet, as it was still under construction when I passed by a few weeks ago.

Re: Vietnamese Restaurant Zurich

I miss cheap and tasty Vietnamese from home (Melbourne) and have been to a few places around Z-town. I've also been to Saigon for a week, though I'm probably not that much of a guru for authenticity...

Asiaway in Oerlikon: does good pho, summer/rice paper rolls, and good noodle salads.
Saigon: Only been there once, good BBQ pork noodle salad, but the summer rolls were kinda pricey
Pho Vietnam: This is the place at Langstr 13 mentioned above, I think it opened mid 2014. I've been there for a couple of lunches, I've only had the Bahn Mi (sandwiches) - it was good though, especially given a good sandwich is a rare beast in this country. Other things on the menu looked nice too.

If anyone knows of other Vietnamese places in Zurich that do Bahn Mi, feel free to post here. In the mean time I'll keep praying that this lot go on a Euopean road trip...

Cutting vegetables is time consuming and labor intensive. Sure, in other places, you can use low cost labor for that. But in Switzerland, that person has to have a living wage, and that price includes contributions to their pension fund.
How much does a vegetable chopper earn per hour in Switzerland versus in Australia? How long does it take an experienced chopper to chop up the vegetables for one portion? I don't think the magnitudes tally.

Re: Vietnamese Restaurant Zurich

I'm Vietnamese and I second Asiaway in Oerlikon.
But for a good and cheap Vietnamese meal, go to Germany!

And there is a new one on Birmensdorferstrasse. Left side out of the city somewhere a lot after Schmiede Wiedikon.
Will drive by to get exact location

Pho Vietnam, is pretty good (authentic) and reasonably priced by Zürich standards. Nice outside seating and great Bahn Mi if you just want a sandwich at lunch.

Re: Vietnamese Restaurant Zurich

Another good one is Pho Na in Josefstrasse 42, not very far from the HB. Cheaper than Asiaway but in a more popular environment. It can get very busy at lunch time.

Re: Vietnamese Restaurant Zurich

+1 for Saigon, who have a sister restaurant called 'Chez Nhan' in Schmiede Wiedikon (hidden on a street behind the tram station).

Small and cosy. Haven't eaten there but have taken takeaway many times. Always a good evening

Re: Vietnamese Restaurant Zurich

I think they moved all the good cooks from the Petite Saigon to Chez Nan or the "real" Saigon.
Because last time I ate at the Petite Saigon, the fish-curry was absolutely tasteless.
The Bun Moc I recently had at Chez Nan was delicious, though. But at 30 CHF with tea, that's a an expensive lunch.
