Fast Food and Take Aways in Luzern

Talking to a friend the other day, and I realised I hadn't had Pizza for a long long time. I don't much like the ones you can buy from the supermarket, but I've yet to try one from a take away, so any recommendations?

Also, any other non-restaurant recommendations. I'd really like somewhere to get a decent curry. Kebabs, especially a nice lamb one, falafel too.

Especially interested in establishements on the Emmen side of town, I've seen many fast food places on baselstrasse\gerliswilstrasse with cuisine from many countries.

Any particular type of food? do you need it delivered?

There is a thai place on the road towards the casino just before you get there on the left which is decent.
Indian opposite starbucks near Lowenplatz that I think does takeaway.
A pizza place I think called Pizza Pronto which delivers although I can't remember where it is.
Kaiten do takeaway sushi if that's your thing.
New Point (along one of the roads off Bundesplatz) does kebabs etc.

Eaten food from all of them and was decent. Sorry, I don't have more detail to hand.

Not a take-away, but Elios on Tribschenstrasse do the best pizza I've found in Luzern... plus the service is great...

I think that is probably the best kebab joint in town.

I thought the kebabs in New Point were OK, but I'm used to the ones from Germany which were always to die for. Have you tried Ali Baba, in what used to be Littau, but is now Lucerne? It's at the end of Luzernerstrasse at the roundabout. Their kebab is the best I've had in Switzerland.

Re: Fast Food and Take Aways in Luzern

I'm delighted to say that I've just gotten a great job in Luzern. I'll be somewhere near Löwenplatz.

Any other suggestions for what I should do for lunch? I'm open for anything with spice!

cheers

They do an amazing buffet for 18.50, which is rarely the same and always fresh.

+1 on New Point, they offer a great menu and it's always good (and open later than anywhere else)

At first I'll have to commute daily. I know it's a slight pain in the behind but my wife works in Zürich and she's already been there over a year.

Perhaps after probation period, we'll look into moving to somewhere in between? Do you think Zug would be best? I'd rather not waste an extra hour a day commuting.

Zug is lovely!*

*Zug is a hole, do not move out of Zurich, the commute isn't so bad, the trains are nice and clean, get first class if you can afford it and spend some time relaxing, working and thinking about the day.

Re: Fast Food and Take Aways in Luzern

Why can't you try yourself (Chicken Kebabs)
Need Things

* 1/4 cup plain whole-milk yogurt (preferably thick Greek-style)
* 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
* 6 garlic cloves, minced
* 1 teaspoon turmeric
* 2 pounds skinless boneless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces

How to prepare

Whisk together yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, turmeric, and 1 teaspoon salt in a large bowl, then add chicken, stirring to coat. Marinate, covered and chilled, at least 8 hours.

If using a charcoal grill, open vents on bottom of grill, then light charcoal. When charcoal turns grayish white and you can hold your hand 5 inches above grill rack for 3 to 4 seconds, grill is ready (medium-hot). If using a gas grill, preheat burners on high, covered, 10 minutes, then reduce heat to medium-high.

While grill heats, drain chicken, discarding marinade, and thread chicken pieces about 1/4 inch apart onto skewers.

Lightly oil hot grill rack, then grill kebabs, covered only if using a gas grill, turning occasionally, until chicken is just cooked through, 4 to 6 minutes.

Chef Wear - A fine feast with the best ingredients, exquisite service and affordable prices is now yours at The Chef's Coat online shop.

Re: Fast Food and Take Aways in Luzern

Cheers,

brilliant but still simple recipe,keep that one in mind.
However before I have all the ingredients gathered,I rather pick up some Indian from Sawasdee or Sushi from Kaiten. It's a bit of a walk but well worth it anytime.
