Apre Ski Drink

I hope someone can help. I lived and worked in Switzerland years ago. And I remember having a wonder hot beverage in Arosa during Apre Ski at a local hotel. It was served in a tall coffee mug with whipped cream. My friend calls it "Schimli Phimli" or something close to that in german. Does anyone know how this is made? It was great.... Thanks

Re: Apre Ski Drink

Could be coffee with Bailey's Irish Cream. It's often served with spices and lots of whipped cream. Make it yourself and have fun getting the recipe right

I'm not going to translate what it means but too many of these and it'll interfere with night time shenanigans...

Re: Apre Ski Drink

Sounds like "Schümli Pflümli": which would be coffee and plum schnapps (Zwetschgenschnapps), topped with whipped cream...

Re: Apre Ski Drink

exactly correct. Something, however, to only be consumed on the ski slopes - at home, it tastes rancid!!

Re: Apre Ski Drink

Crumbs is right, but a real Schümli Pflümli also contains 1-2 teaspoons of sugar which you put into the empty glass first.

Because of Lob Rockster's observation, there are a couple of other alcoholic coffee reciepes around that don't require whipped cream. Basically they're all served in a glass, with a teaspoon and some sugar already on the bottom. Kafi Luz (for Lucerne) contains apple/pear or pear schnaps. Another common combination is Zwetschgen Luz (prune plum schnaps) but some Swiss put all fruit spirits they can get their hands on in coffee. Unspecific names for this are "Kafi fertig", "Kafi Schnaps", "Kafi mit avec" etc.

Re: Apre Ski Drink

My only bit of advice is not to sample them all in one apres ski as my boyfriend can vouch for

They are all delicious on the slopes but I have to agree with Lob that they lose a certain amount of appeal at home.....apart from cafe baileys. That is one drink I could have every day

Re: Apre Ski Drink

I asked my friends in Arosa about this drink: It is called "Schuemli Pfluemli".
It contains: Water, Sugar, Coffee and Pfluemli Schnaps= Plum Schnaps = Slivoviz
Good luck.

congratulations on bringing the solution to the thread. You've been doubting Crumbs and Nathu for 10 days, I assume?
