I have a friend flying out to see me on Friday. We are planning to go out in Geneva. Is there an Indian food place anywhere? If so, how expensive is it?

I have to confess that I'm not very fond of Shahi. I much prefer Café Ghandi or Indian Village, both of which are in the Paquis neighborhood. The best indian food I've had in Geneva though was at Jaipur which is in Jonction near the Télévision Suisse Romande tower. You can get address details from http://restorang.ch.

Also what kind of bar are you looking for? There are a lot of them around there so you can pretty much name your style.

Something fairly close to the station, where you can hear yourself talk. Not too bothered by the style. I have only ever been to Pickwicks but thought I would save that until Saturday.

On more thing in favour of Café Art's: There's a new Indian place right across the street. I haven't tried it yet, but it's almost certain to be better than Shahi.

Just across the street from the train station is Les Brasseurs, but I also agree it's too loud for conversation. It's a big, wood-panelled bar with its own unremarkable brew.

I vote for Café Arts, but it's hard to get a seat sometimes. On the left bank of the Rhone (south of the train station), there are a cluster of trendy bars popular with young professionals around the Stand tram stop. They can get really crowded after work hours, however.

In terms of Indian restaurants, the only one I've been to is the one in the Montbrillant Centre on Avenue de France (Sismondi tram stop, 10min north of the train station). I remember main dishes were CHF 20-25. It's attached to an Indian/Oriental food shop and next door to a Thai restaurant. The restaurants there do all right with lunchers from the nearby UN offices, but I'm not sure what they're like in the evening.

There's also another one called Bollywood or something in the little square off Rue des Paquis. It looks colourful and festive from the outside. Maybe a 10-minute walk northeast of the train station.

Try Walk'in Soulfood for fantastic home cooked Indian food in a tapas style eat in or take away. Reasonably priced in a friendly atmosphere situated beside Charly O'Neils Irish pub in Geneva.

There is such a nice and good Indian restaurant right accross from the Gare Cornavin (nr Rue Mont Blanc) . I will go there again, whenever I prefer that nice Moroccan restaurant just two streets towards the lake.


thanks. The Shahi it was. True, the one those folks in Basel right now have on their program is above, but i have been in the Shahi about three times (since 1990) and I liked the place, each time had either lamb or beef vindaloo, and appreciated it. Geneva still is a very good place with restaurants of many different kinds.


I when in Geneva in an evening always simply walk around in the Quartier Paquis which I like, and I sometimes see that a nice restaurant is gone, but often detect one I did not see on previous visits. I like it that there are so many Arab places in that quarter now, in an increasing way.

I went to a new indian restaurant NAMASTE with my friends. It's in Meyrin. We thought It's so far but it took us only 20 min in tram 18. We took the tram from Coutance (Close to Manor) and we stopped at Maisonnex and from there it is just 1min walk. A friend of mine came in his car and it was easy for him to park because they have private parking .

While looking at the menu we got totally confused because of the good range of variety. So we asked the server to help us and he himself choose the best appetizers mixed pakoras and Non-veg Platter for us which was really delicious. and then in the mean while we was served with Very Good France Red Wine and then later on after 30 min we was served with amazing food lots of dishes last but not the lease they offered us the Chai from there-self It was really appreciated. So i must recommend u my friends to try it once.

The owner of Namaste has a wine/tobacco shop on the rue Chantepoulet, near the cinema/just across from the Cathedral. I often buy fresh samosas and other nibbles from him. He only just told me about his restaurant on Tuesday and gave me a couple of business cards.

Ohh really You now what, When I went to the restaurant they told me that they have just opened a new shop also called NAMASTE at 10 Rue de Fribourg, near Gare Cornavin just behind Supermarket (Les Cygnes). There they have Indian, Latino, Philippine, African and many other products.
I went on tuesday with my wife and we bought fresh vegetables. Every week they have some special offers and we profited one of it. As we are very fond of shopping so before going anywhere we do some survey and at last we found this store the most reasonable one.

I shall have to go have a look see there too!! i should be down that way today, or early next week. But do try the samosas in the place I mentioned - he has vegetarian or chicken. I just wrapped them up in tinfoil and heated them up for ten minutes - yum.

He has had the shop on Chantepoulet for years. The other day, when he told me about the restaurant, he said it was near CERN. But from what you said - a 20 minute tram ride is not too bad. It would probably take longer in a car, depending on the traffic.

It sounds like Mr Namaste is taking over Geneva - with his restaurant and numerous shops!!! Good for him, finally we may have a winner in Indian cuisine here!! Which has been lacking...

On the card he gave me - they do a buffet everyday at lunchtime, and also takeaways or they can deliver.
