Easy... There isnt any.

Forget tapadera, last time we went a lot of things were from packets, tasteless and plain.

Can't speak for Basel, specifically, but my experience is of crap, expensive, bland Mexican food, here ....... makes Taco Bell seem gourmet.

Re: in search of Mexican food in Basel

if you can travel for few KMs outside Basel, try http://www.casaneruda.de/ in Lorrach.
Nice mexican food (and drinks) and you won't shout "Ayyy carramba!!" when you get the bill.

p.s.

Re: in search of Mexican food in Basel

1. they use a microwave to "cook"

2. ingredients are low quality and store bought shells, tortilla chips, etc....not even good store bought, something you would find at the discount store

3. spice is absent

4. service is slow

5. it is expensive

6. its a bad version of American Mexican, think Taco Bell and then remove any pleasurable moments

La Fonda near Marktplatz is 'okay'. We tried burritos (good), enchiladas (too bland) and quesedillas(not bad). Gud luck with your search. We were not too lucky

Hey Brak
I have to agree with the others.. There is no good Mexican Restaurant in Basel.
But just acrossed the boarder to germany in weil in rhein, I can recommend Hazienda. I liked it very much!!

Re: in search of Mexican food in Basel

Another vote here for La Piratita. Hands down the best in BS. Decent food and good prices, too.

La Fonda is OK. Tacoteca is disappointing and Tapadera is, well, best avoided.

Re: in search of Mexican food in Basel

Have been disappointed in CH with Mexican (except El Mais in Zurich for supplies but it's big $$$) but a small road trip away from Basel I heard about food truck in Freiburg im Breisgau (45min N of Basel up the A5) called "Holy Taco Shack." Located every Wednesday and Saturday mid-days at Wochenmarkt Freiburg Rieselfeld, Maria-von-Rudloff-Platz. Look forward to giving it a try, food looks good on the website. Now I just need to find a place with Blue Margaritas, no salt, on cubed (not crushed) ice…..

Sadly, La Fonda has now closed. OH and I had eaten there a few times and we enjoyed it. I will miss their margaritas.

Re: in search of Mexican food in Basel

I always enjoyed the Mexican food at La Fonda and now miss it since I moved to Zurich but do still meet friends there when passing through Basel

Altstetten (outside Zuirch) has a new-ish tex-mex casual restaurant which is good value. Needs a bit more spice but that is par for the course in Switzerland

I agree, we ordered mole and beef tacos and they were yummy

Tried La Piratita recently and that was very good, nothing fancy but very traditional

Only one is saying it's open and that's the weird irrelevant post talking about Basel being a cultural city. So it can be ignored. The other person's just said they used to go before moving to Zurich so they can be ignored too

La Piratita was great - awesome Margaritas and burritos the size of your head ( or at least someone with an exceptionally large head)!

Re: in search of Mexican food in Basel

I'm from Sam Diego, been in CH 6 years and I can just tell you to look elsewhere for mexican food, some other country. This microwaved, hard shell, no seasoning or spice Swiss-Mex is just nasty. && cost a fortune to boot. Avoid at all costs.
