I was at Zen's last night. Had most of the steamed dimsums and then satay chicken and chicken in black bean.

The ambiance is nice. The food is so-so. It's like an okay chinese place I would find in London or Melbourne. It's tasty but ok.

The dimsums had nice presentation with different colours and shapes. But they were ok too.

For the price, IMHO, it's not worth a trip to Adliswil for this. The food was ok and pricey. To me it was nohing special.

My vote still goes to Hei Fung. The food was just so much better and that for me is worth a trip to Adliswil from zurich for. It's also not as expensive.

On another note, the service in Zen's was brisk. They were often there to clean up the table of bottles and used dishes/bamboo steamers, even reaching out across people's plates to access them. We had ordered vegetarian dimsums and were told the wrong ones were vegetarian which was not appreciated by the vegie-lover on the table.

Though even with this service, if the food was better, I would go back.

Cheers,
Nanda.
Hmm sorry to hear that. Like I said never tried the Dim Sum. Every time we go there I get the peking duck which is IMHO outstanding, especially with the rice pancake thinggies and the crispy skin. I've had another dish there before I discovered the duck which was good but not exceptional, so I keep getting the duck.

Willd efinitely have to try Hei Fung.

Re: Chinese restaurants in Zurich

I have been last Saturday in Lörrach, and I ate in a such amazing and lovely Chinese restaurant (the link bellow)
http://web2.cylex.de/firma-home/chin...ai-562413.html
Is quite far away from Zürich but I recommend it...the meal were really taste...I could not manage my course (dish) alone (too much food)...and the best point....CHEAP!!!
The waitress were nice, friendly and sympathetic and in the end she brought us a warm plum wine (I didn't know about it...I had liked).

I'm certain this is bound to happen here, and I can hardly wait. If there are any Restaurateurs out there, listen up:

-A Hardcore Korean barbeque restaurant with grills at your table
-Class A Vietnamese Phô
-Authentic Tokyo-style Ramen
-Jamba Juice

For a great spicey Phô soup: restaurant Vietnam at Bahnhof Binz (Uetlibergbahn, from Zurich HB, 3rd stop). Also authentic vietnamese spring rolls, great lunch buffet.

Re: Chinese restaurants in Zurich

There's a little food place just next to SihlCity shopping mall called Hong Kong Food Paradise or something to that effect. It houses 3 different cuisines - indian, chinese and japanese. Dont bother with the japanese food there - its tasteless and overpriced.

But do give the duck from the Chinese store a go as well as the tandoori chicken!

Re: Chinese restaurants in Zurich

My wife (chinese) and I went to Beyond in Zollstr. last Friday. It was busy, but we got a seat fairly fast.

Food was pretty good - certainly some of the better chinese food we have had since arriving in Zurich that is when eating out not home of course

But what we are really missing is a good szechuan restaurant. Anyone had any luck finding one yet?

For takeaway or quick eating I liked Peking Garden just outside Altstetten Train Station. I and my husband we personally found it much better than Suanlong at Zurich HB. And the price is quite reasonable.
I also heard positives from many about the one at Zollstrasse.

Oh no! No No! Don't eat the Indian there! It makes baby (insert name of god) cry.

I honestly thought the indian there was incredibly greasy, incredibly expensive, and not at all worth it. The chinese food there did look and smell great though.

Next time!

Re: Chinese restaurants in Zurich

Had dinner on a week night at Nagasui. Pretty good stewed pork layered with cabbage leaves (k'ou yoke), marinated fried chicken and tempura-style soft shell crab. Decent dim-sum.

They have two outlets in ZH.

Thanks for all the recommendations! I am Chinese, just got to Zurich, and am a bit disppointed in Chinese restaurants (used to live in west coast US). Your recommendations are helpful, and I am going to try all of the restaurants. Anyone got a link/address to Beyond?

Oh that is good to know. I saw them near the Stock Exchange and it looked like a nice place to have dinner in summer - nice outdoor dining area. Will give it a go...

Someone recommended the Yumihana for Korean food. Do they also do Korean BBQ? I am desperately searching for a decent Restaurant with Korean BBQ (the whole deal with sidedishes etc.).

So far I have tried out one which was horrendous and overpriced...

Best by far is Korea Pavilion on Badenerstr.

I am in a constant hunt of good Chinese (and Asian) food.

I've been to Beyond in Zollstrasse. The taste is authentic and not too expensive.

Buche at Bucheggstrasse is, according to some info I found on the web, famous for its Beijing dumplings. They were ok, but not great.

My friends brought me to Suan Long at Bahnhof Enge for Dim Sum. It was nice and the waitress very friendly.

Does anyone know other Chinese restaurants in Zurich?
under
www.zuerich.onrest.com/chinesisch.htm
you can find some
-
I however particularily like
-
Peking Garden
Schaffhauserstr. 58, 8152 Glattbrugg
beside S-Bahn Station "Opfikon", S-Line 7
-
Dragon Inn
Albisstr. 27, 8038 Zürich-Wollishofen
beside the Tram station "Post Wollishofen", Tram 7

China Garden near Bahnhofstrasse was replaced by Denners Wine Bar. Much as I love a good wine bar (or even a bad one like this), I do miss the odd service and the sizzling Mongol (dish).

I only was there twice, and whenever it was a nice place, the meat both times was somewhere between the consistence of military shoes and rubber-bears. I over the years have eaten in many Chinese restaurants all over Greater Zurich Area, but never had anything like this elsewhere.

Sorry if this has been said before. My faverite Chinese restaurant is Zen in Adliswil. It is also in the Michelin guide and therefore not exactly cheap, but they do have the most amazing Peking duck and lots of other very good dishes and the portions are big.

http://www.restaurant-zen.ch/
when in Adliswil, I much preferred
Hei Fung
Soodstr. 17, 8134 Adliswil
quite near to the rail-station
-- a bit narrow, a bit old-fashioned, not cheap, but excellent and an excellent service

I think Zen is just as good as anything in NY...just my opinion. I am surprised though that everytime I go there, the place is sort of empty. I think it's a bad location.
-
I was there about twice, excellent, but located "in the middle of nowhere" or as it was put in "The Great Gatsby" quite nicely "in the valley of ashes". One of the worst locations in the Greater Zurich Area.

Yeah I'd like to see those too plus a real Tex-Mex or good Mexican restaurant - closest so far was Tres Amigos in Roggwil .
-
I can recommend the Tres Amigos in the centre of Bassersdorf, which can be compared with Mexican places in Texas or in Atlanta/GA, and really can be recommended. With my MX experience consisting of an hour walkabout in Matomoros I however cannot judge authenticity. And, to be mentioned here is that just a few meters from the Tres Amigos in Bassersdorf is, in Winterthurerstr. 21, the Byblos Lebanese-Armenian Restaurant.

Nagasui is owned by the same guy (Malaysian) who owns Tiffins in Seefeld.

Re: Chinese restaurants in Zurich

Peking Garden in Uster by the Bahnhof is an absolute NO NO.

I've eaten Chinese food on 5 Continents around the world and had some pretty strange experiences but their food is by far the worst I have ever tasted. Please do not go there. Total waste of money.

You may think perhaps it was a one off ... NO ... we gave them 2 other chances, takeaway and dine in, but the food was terrible each time.

The fried rice tasted like brine, the beef had absolutely no flavour, the chicken wings were the worst I have ever eaten in my life, dry and tasteless. The service was pretty shameful too. All in all a really really bad meal.

Stick to Suan Long ... far far better quality of food and service.
