restaurant suggestions - Zug, Cham, Aegeri, Baar area?

Hi all,

A few of us gals in the Zug area are trying to plan a (rare) evening out at a restaurant. Unfortunately, the one we wanted is booked out for Friday. We sadly do not know much about local restaurants, collectively having no social life and all...

Any suggestions for restaurants you enjoy in this area? Does not need to be posh but good food would be lovely (no pizza places though - can do that better at home)...

Re: restaurant suggestions - Zug, Cham, Aegeri, Baar area?

I've been to Dukes in Hirzel-Sihlbrugg it's predominantly a steak house (comes served on a hot stone) but also has a good selection of other dishes including vegetarian dishes, and for Switzerland it's very reasonably priced. My wife and I went there recently and we had a steak main course (good quality steak!!) and dessert with soft drinks and the bill was around 100CHF. Has the added benefit that if you want to party they have a nightclub upstairs.

There is a chinese restaurant in Cham, Zhu Li, the food is excellent and you can watch it being cooked, it's also ridiculously cheap average 15CHF for a main course. The downside is that the ambiance is a little industrial.

Re: restaurant suggestions - Zug, Cham, Aegeri, Baar area?

Haven't been there yet but got it recommended because of the splendid views: http://www.blasenberg.ch/
Nothing posh so it seems from the menu and pictures on the website.
If you are planning to go in the evening though, not sure if the views will be of much value then.

2 nice restaurants in Walchwil:
- Sternen - very good but very expensive - http://www.sternen-walchwil.ch/
- Zugersee Lido - http://www.zugersee-lido.ch/essen-und-trinken/

Passed by this one in Cham in summer while cycling around the lake, looks really nice: http://www.restaurant-villette.ch/

If your in Zug hop on a the S9 to Mettmenstetten. Right opposite the station is the Banhof Steakhouse, all grilled over wood, and unfailingly superb..... theres a reason the owner drives a DB9 spyder though.

My spouse and I really like Dukes too (he has steak, I go for the fajitas ). It can get noisy in there though, and there is an entertainment venue upstairs where they have live bands eg. rockabilly, rock but I haven't been to that part of the restaurant. They do a huge starter to share with a group of people which seems to include things like chicken wings, ribs etc. (and arrives on a long wooden platter with sparklers). It seems to attract hen parties....

Another nice place if you want it smart/casual and not too formal is Milchsudi in Cham, it's behind the Coop. It's a lovely historical building, where Nestle condensed milk used to be made:

Re: restaurant suggestions - Zug, Cham, Aegeri, Baar area?

A few tips in the Cham/Huenenberg area

The Blinker in Cham/Steinhausen: quite a stylish place
http://www.the-blinker.biz/home.html?L=1

If you are into Austrian food:
The Steirereck in Cham is solid and within 3 minutes walking distance from the train station: www.steirereck.ch
I was not impressed by the Austrian place in Zug www.kaiser-franz.ch, but then I visited on their buffet night. Maybe their a la carte offerings are better.

For good Swiss cuisine with a slight french twist, IIRC:
www.wirtschaft-schiess.ch
or, quite posh (despite its name), but more difficult to get to with public transport: Restaurant Wart www.wart.ch
Not to be confused with Restaurant Wartstein across the street, which is a good, but not spectacular Swiss/Italian place www.restaurantwartstein.ch

Neumuhle in Baar is good and has a good atmosphere in the evening. You need to book. Maenrisli in Baar is also nice. Rottelberg in zug is very good. The sports Baar at boassard is acceptable. IM hof is lovely, has a very small menu of 6 or 7 dishes but is very popular and the felsenkeller is similar.

Re: restaurant suggestions - Zug, Cham, Aegeri, Baar area?

Unfortunately, we ended up going to Juanito's (mexican food) near the lake. Food and service were ok. What we did not realize, however, was that this tiny place turned into a "smoking bar" at 10. It all went from pleasant to nauseating pretty quickly. Next time I ask for advice or recommendations, I will make sure to actually act on it/them!

Brandenberg Zug is amazing food place! They are a traditional Restaurant with very nice food! The prices are not too expensive depend on what you go for! at lunch time most of the dishes come with a nice soup & tasty salad included. in summertime they got a beer garden as well! you really should try - it's just over the round about at Bossard Arena.

Kaiser Franz for special evenings. The food and wine selection are good, though quite pricey.

Re: restaurant suggestions - Zug, Cham, Aegeri, Baar area?

Bistro in Zugerland 5 min drive from Zug - is great as well. They got always specials on over lunch as well. The prices are okay and they got traditional food as well. I used to go there over my lunch or also to Migro Cantine which is as well in Zugerland. they got always about 4 menu on for not much and warm buffet plus salads buffet. Pretty good as well... I know the food is amazing as well at Schiff Bar directly at the lake Zug, but not sure if they do specials for lunch there. anyway - I wish you - bon appétit

I was at the Brandenberg restaurant today. My first impression was that it was rather loud but I must say that the food was excellent and the service was efficent and friendly. I'll certainly be back again sometime.
