HI All - until a few months ago i used to join up with the Basel Curry Club once a month (see http://www.baselexpats.com ) . The idea was to meet up each time in a different restaurant - there are around 10 different curry houses in the basel area alone - and they seem to be opening and closing up regularly so there is always something new to try out. Anyhow the club seems to have lapsed somehow which is a great pity.

Who here would be interested in coming to a regular curry in the Zürich - or even Baden area ? And who would like to help revive the Basel group ?

If interested please let us know your favourite restaurant and the one that gets the most votes could have our custom - say on a Tuesday or Wednesday as soon as we get a group together .....

Mmmm, this has inspired me to mention the place we went last Saturday. We were watching a few games at our facourite pub, and decided to find a place nearby to eat before rejoining the pub for a few beers. There was this little Indian place on Elisabetenstr. that did an all you can eat buffet... It was fantastically delicious too..... Don't know how long it's been open, but definitely worth a visit if you're looking for curry in Basel.

The Bombay Palace across the road from Paddys also does a really good buffet lunch, not too expensive either which is a bonus.

my fav in Basel was/is Jays . the food is delicious.. the service great .. looks like i wil be in Basel for the next couple of months due to work, so anyone interested to revive the Basel curry club, let me know...

Been to Jay's the other day and the food IS good ... BUT if you're a Brit who's missing a menu including a table with "Veggie, Chicken, Meat" along the top, and "Korma, Tikka Massala, Rogan Josh, Madras, Vindaloo" down the side then you won't get that here. There's not enough chemical additives for this comfort food.

The Mango Lassi is also a victim of localisation and is closer to a healthy smoothie than the (probably equally localised) creamy lassies i'm used to in Britain.

Would defintely be up for a curry (sophisticated OR comfort versions) in Basel sometime, although probably not till the New Year. Can i bring my Baselbieterin curry connessieur too?

well if we can agree on time and place (how about Tuesday 9th or 16th Jan ? ) I would be happy to join in a Basel Curry Club revival and reserve table in advance based on provisional show of interest.

I agree that Jay's is very tasty, although with one daily set menu it is probably not the place for starting off. How about Ganesh for a buffet ?

I'm a "very probably", so pick a date!

Can't make the 16th but would be up for the 9th. How about a regular first Sunday of every month or something like that? Or are weekends too precious? Surely not for curry!

OK, I propose we settle on a date and try and make it a regular thing Sunday would be fine with me but some restaurants are not open on that day. (apart from the fact that a lot of people are away at weekends)

I therefore suggest that we go to Ganesh (Schützenmattstr. 2 in Basel) on 16th January at 1930 - and thereafter if possible to a different curry-house every 2nd Tuesday of the month - subject to there being enough interest of course.

Please post if you can come. As soon as we get 3 more-or-less definites I will reserve a table to accomodate and switch to the "Veranstaltungen/Social Events" thread (or whatever it is called!)

My mouth is watering already (but don't let it put you off ...)

My husband and I are moving to Basel in February. We were planning to join the Curry Club. It is a pity that it no longer exist, however if you need any help reviving it, you could email me using the link in my profile. That would help me to get to know people and find some friends, because reading this forum got me quite concerned about so called Swiss rudeness and strugle to find friends.

Can't make the Jan 16th but will put Tuesday Feb 9th in the diary. Should be two of us, one who will have had a curry fix in England in the meantime but the other who will be in need.

Definitely support the 'buffet' movement.

King's Kurry is a very safe and obvious bet.

For those who don't know it, it's near Wiedikon and you can see more information on the website http://www.kingskurry.ch

It's very reasonably priced - which is a shocker in Zurich - and the food has always been excellent whenever i've gone.

Is there anything planned for Tuesday 9th? I'll be in Basel tomorrow and I'm always interested in curry!

I'm also interested in reviving the curry club in Basel. I attended several fun evenings, but it has lapsed now for quite some time. can't make next week as have to go to Holland on business, but anytime after that.

It's pleasing that there is now a few half-decent curry restaurants in Basel. The Bombay Palace is closest to home, and delivers a reasaonable curry especially after a few jars across the road in Paddy's. favourite has to be the Mandir, which can really put together a decent spicy curry (check out the Chicken Madras) and nice naan breads.
