Toddlers in the movies

Has anyone seen movie theaters with showings for 2-4 year olds?

My son loves movies and I'd really like to take him to the big screen some time soon. But most places here have an age cut-off of 6 or so. Even for movies pitched at the younger ones! And I've seen kids turned away in tears before, and I certainly don't want to be one of those

Thanks!
Alice

Re: Toddlers in the movies

We're on the other side of the country, but with a couple of big towns nearby (Geneva/Lausanne) and I'm afraid nothing to report re parent/kid screenings for the very young (or even parent/baby screenings).

Everyone's toddler is different, and whereas some may be able to concentrate on a screen and sit still for 90mins, others would find it overwhelming. I guess that's why they have the age cut-off.

With cinema tickets so expensive, many parents just wait for kids' films to come out on DVD...

Maybe if there were enough parents interested, you could suggest a Kids' Club-type arrangement with a local cinema, where they show a suitable film with the lights low but not off, and where a certain amount of running around and playing might be tolerated??

Re: Toddlers in the movies

Yeah, I'm definitely looking for a situation where the kid can be a bit noisy, which is why I don't want to try to go to anything for adults/ older kids now.

I guess perhaps I resort to dvds until he's a bit older

Thanks!

Re: Toddlers in the movies

Handy Hint:

To give your toddler that big screen cinema experience at home:
  • Close the curtains/shutters.
  • Sit him right in front of the TV.
  • Turn the volume up.
  • When he talks - keep nudging him in the back and tell him to keep quiet.
  • Refuse to change his/her nappy for two hours (if still using one).
