Music scene in Zurich

Hi all,

I'm new to Zurich for work & love, & was wondering about the alternative music scene here in Zurich.

I'm not that interested in seeing concerts; more meeting other musicians & making music.

Is there any centralised place either online or in real life, where such people congregate?

I need to get back to singing!

Thanks all,

M

Go on Facebook and fin the group called Zürich Sunjam. There is this nice event once a month on Sunday, people get together and play music and do some networking, i think there is one next Sunday, you'll find the information there.

Perfect, cheers Jonathan, I'll be sure to check that out.

If anyone else has any other leads, would be most grateful.

Thanks, M

It might help if you could define "alternative". I'm getting into neurofunk at the moment and that's pretty alternative, although I'm sure that's not your idea of alternative - as my GF puts it "it's noise, and not nice noise"

Re: Music scene in Zurich

Hey!

I'm a Bass/Drum player but at the moment I am not really engaged in a creative process with any band, rather just playing gigs around every now and then.
I would be interested in meeting musicians with a drive for experimentation, and see what happens.

Most importantly: I have a band room.

Send me a PM and we can discuss, maybe with a beer.

cheers
michele

I have a Room too, in Bahnhof Selnau. Ishare it with my band mates, we are starting a cool reggae project called The Exiles, but i think we can have a jam there, let me know and we get together.

I think Fridays works for me, cheers.

Re: Music scene in Zurich

Hello all,

Good to see there's some active musicians in Zurich; was concerned it was all purely corporate...

'Alternative' for me is historical really; I was in various bands from alternative rock through the heaviness spectrum to hardcore, but those days are somewhat gone.

Nowadays, I listen to just about everything (including country & metal!), so as Schiavilli says, I'm well up for some original experimentation. For me, there's only two types of music; good & bad

In any case, sounds like we should definitely have a beer & discuss. At the very least, we'll make some new friends. I'll PM each of you my details & we'll get something together?

Thanks to all, guys!
As for the jam sessions, I'm usually scared that they turn out to be a neverending Blues frenzy, but I'll check it out :-)

Re: Music scene in Zurich

I'll be traveling to Switzerland in early August and I'm hoping to play a few gigs. Does anyone know of any small clubs or coffee houses that have live music? Although I'll be in Bern, Zurich is close enough to play as well.

I want to add that if you are looking for a less commercial music scene, you should try Klubi (http://klubi.ch/) and Boschbar (http://www.strandbaer.ch/bosch/) as well.

Re: Music scene in Zurich

Some good advice here.. You have to keep us posted so we can come see you

Alternative can be many things but I assume it's anything but mainstream, bubblegum pop

Re: Music scene in Zurich

At the Klubi you can find anything really, from fringe HipHop to eardrums-smashing Polish Noise bands (I-was-there-and-it-was-cool).

I also suggest to keep an eye on this: http://u5.92u.ch/index/automatenbar.html
it's an art collective that open their space for drinks every now and then with interesting musical acts.
I am biased as I went there with an "interesting musical act", true.
Take your pick.
