Nightlife Geneva ?

I'm off down to Geneva for a weekend, and the last couple of times I think I've missed the drinking nightlife. Where is it ? I'm looking for jazz bars or wine bars, or even pubs. Not pretentious, and not too scruffy either. Can someone someone suggest somewhere, even region of the city ?

Thanx
dave

Go back up the lake tp Lausanne...

If you want a super expat gigantor pub, look no further than Mr. Pickwick:

Good for watching the football.

A trendy bar is Alhambar, at the foot of the old town. You can go to l'Usine if you want loud music, possible live acts, dance floor.

Re: Nightlife Geneva ?

Don't go to Pickwicks !!!!

I've only been here a month so i don't know much, but what i do know is that pickwicks is a sh*thole i'm afraid...

There's a couple of Jazzbars, i've found one called Sud on Rue Des Alps which is a tiny cellar bar... and one in the centre which i cant remember the name of, i'll get back to you on that one..

Depends on yr taste... Personally for bars i'd head to the oldtown, or rue de carouge maybe.. as a rule for bars in general stay south of the river and away from paquis i'd say

OK thanks fo rthe pointers so far: i'm looking for wood'n'cosy'n'jazzy and or modern clean and smart cocktails without being too pretentious. I thinking more drinking than eating, and wine more than beer.

Pickwicks will be the last resort, and the cliched playlist of the rock band that is playing there on Saturday night it doesnt look too inviting...

Well, lets put it this way.. if i wanted to spend my spare time in a narrow, smokey bar with no elbow room, crap beer and a sticky carpet then i'd have never left the uk in the first place...

sorry, i'm just not a fan of english/irish pubs abroad as a rule really.. you get the odd good one but largely they're pretty unpleasant i find.

Re: Nightlife Geneva ?

Just noticed this again.

Pickwick's is huge...biggest pub I have been in Geneva by far. I have no idea what you are talking about. I am not their number 1...or number 10 (GET IT? HAHA...) fan by any means but they cool for football screens and happy hour half price pints/pitchers.

Re: Nightlife Geneva ?

Yeah it's good for drinks prices certainly, and it is one of the places where you're guaranteed to get an english footie fix..
i was probably a bit harsh on the pickwick admittedly, but it stll wouldn't be one of my bars of choice..
