Whisky Zurich!

HI People,

I am a lover of Whisky. Be it Scotch Whisky or Irish Whiskey.
Not too into Sour mash or Bourbon.

Are there any great whisky bars in Zurich? I was told about a whisky boat that sails at the lake in Zurich. Is this a touristic kind of thing or is it all about the real deal.

Do the Swiss make any decent whisky of their own? I would love to try it.

Thanks

Re: Whisky Zurich!

The whisky ships are an annual event, and they're genuine. Hundreds to try.

Also, I think there's a member of this forum who sometimes arranges whiskey and cheese evenings.

Re: Whisky Zurich!

Walk along Neiderdorf from Stadelhofen towards the Church..there is a whisky shop on the left called Liquid Perl, he sells a lot of good whisky and allows you to try before you buy.
There is another great shop further up nearer past the church on the right hand side...its off the main road but they have a sign on the street pointing the way, they sell whisky in vats and allow you to take as much away with you as you can afford.

Edit...also the Rapperswil brewery makes a nice whisky.

Re: Whisky Zurich!

I work with The Whisky Experience but nothing booked in the near future. The Swiss do make some whisky and you can try some at The Rappi Brewery in Rapperswil. We're hosting a Ploughmans Lunch and Cheese Festival there Saturday 12th July, will post a Commercial event when I get a mo.....

Re: Whisky Zurich!

Widder Bar in Zurich has one of the finest selections of single malts this side of Edinburgh, to say nothing of their Tequila sortiment.

Edit, too slow for the Lob

Halfway through the contents of your wallet perhaps. A chap was sitting next to me the other night ordering glass after glass of a Laphroaig which struck me as strange because is was far too dark to be Laphroaig - looked more like a Macallan, then I noticed the bottle it was getting poured out of said "25" on it.

At something like CHF120 a pop I hope he was enjoying himself.

Re: Whisky Zurich!

The name escapes me but theres a little whiskey specialist in the Niederdorf just after the Neumarkt 31 bus stop. Cross the road walk towards niederdorf Str. and the shop is 12 m away on your right nestled in a small alcove.

Have a reasonably good selection a scot single malts.

Re: Whisky Zurich!

Eric who runs the Whisky Ships also owns the London Store in Zug, he has quite a few on sale in the shop. He also will order special requests, he got me a bottle of 40 year old malt recently.

My whisky drinking days are past, but I've heard that "Swissky" isn't too bad.
