I'd say it was more of a "pub" culture but the pubs/bars here are not really like those in the UK.

The more "trendy" bars (e.g. the National, Rue du Torrent) tend to me a bit more expensive.

There used to be a good "pub" pub called the Petit léman but they had to move and most people that go there seem to be in the 18-30 age bracket so I feel a bit old in there now.

For me, the best place remains the Bout du Monde.
They had 3 bands on this Saturday, the place was heaving as usual. Great night out.

You could also try the V which is next to the train station (N.B. V as in 5 not V as in the letter v, the French therefore call it the cinquième).
They too have some live music on and also football etc. in the back room (though no Premier League and the commentary is in French).

There is a decent wine bar in the middle of Vevey. They have all sorts of different wines. It's just changed names and I can't remember what it's called now but it's basically opposite Payot (book shop) in the old town.

Vevey is not that great seriously...just hop on a train and ride out to Lausanne or montreaux where theres more going on

Again, it really depends on what you're looking for.

I go to Lausanne about twice a year and go out in Vevey nearly every weekend but then most of my friends are Swiss and I've been here for so long that I know almost everyone in Vevey, lol.

Just a quick note to anyone who feels like going out this evening or tomorrow night, it is the annual multiculteral party with music, food stands, drinks etc.

It is not the film but rather the actual opera which is playing live in London and being diffused in Aigle in English!
