Re: Needing good thai food..

Blue monkey is not authentic and over priced. Hua Thai is the BEST and resonably prices thai food in Zurich. Small casual and need reservations if you go during normal dinner/lunch hours. Here is the info:

Hua Thai
Hardstrasse 320
Tel 044 271 54 30

The other GREAT thai food is in Neiderdorf, new Munster church called Bon Song Thai, here is the link. www.bansongthai.ch

Cheers...

In Basel (Feldbergstr.) there is the Chanthaburi, which serves quite nice Thai-food. However I yet have to find a place which makes good Pad-Thai. Well, I will be in Thailand/Laos at the end of the year anyway
Can anyone please reccommend Jeffrey's in Basel, near the exhibition halls?

Re: Needing good thai food..

Hey ever thought that of making it? There are plenty of Asian shops around, the internet has lots of recipes and Pad Thai and is on a fairly low level of skill required to cook it ...

The freshness of the ingredients will make it a hundred times better. Our experience of Thai restaurants here in Switzerland (we are a Anglo-Thai family) is relatively negative and rarely comes to the standard that we can cook at home or would have on the street corner in Thailand.

Thai cooking is quick and simple..

here's a recipe for Penang

Paul’s Recipe for Penang Curry

2 Tablespoons Fresh Penang Curry sauce from authentic Thai shop
100 g Chicken
150 ml Coconut Cream with 50 ml of water
2 Fresh Chillis
Fish Sauce
Palm Sugar
Kaffir Lime leaves
50 g Mushrooms
3-4 baby Aubergines (These are round aubergines found in specialty stores and not small aubergines)

Fry the Penang paste in a couple of tablespoons of vegetable oil until fragrant, add the coconut cream and water and stir over a medium heat. Add thinly sliced chicken and continue to stir until cooked through. Add a dash of fish sauce and some palm sugar to taste as well as the baby aubergines and mushrooms. Continue to stir over a medium heat, finally adding the lime leaves.

In Thailand, there are many different versions of Penang Curry and some are quite ‘wet’ whilst others are almost completely dry. I prefer a slightly drier style and to create this at home, continue to heat and reduce the curry on a medium heat until the mixture is at the desired consistency (its tends to get darker as it does). Serve of a bed of rice.

Re: Needing good thai food..

If you have sometime i suggest you to try Thai food in Restaurant Ramsteinerhof in Basel. I have been there once and i think the food there is pretty good and also you can enjoy the Rhine river view at the restaurant terrace. You can contact to this 061 3131350 number to make the reservation if you are interesting in it. I hope you will have a good time as I had before.

Re: Needing good thai food..

Another great option in Zug canton is Ruan Siam - in Baar less than one block from the bahnhof, with great food, easy take-away and also a small shop with lots of Thai goodies...

Re: Needing good thai food..

A little off the beaten track but if you find yourself with time on your hands in Fluelen (maybe after a trip on the lake) I thoroughly recommend the Thai Food in Gasthaus Rose. The staff/chef are Thai and Radchana is a lovely host, also child friendly, they will cook anything up even if not on the menu.

In Geneva we have at least two good thaï restaurants: one called "Mik-Wong" (one beside the McDonalds in Plainpalais, one near the station on Blvd James-Fazy), and one called "La feuille de banane" in the rue de Carouge.

La feuille de banane does a killer green curry (also does yellow and red curries). They are know for their serving speed (you practically get your food before you even ordered it. Perfect for take-away rather than a quiet evening).
Isnt it Mike Wong? Agree with Patara but its very expensive. Sam Lor in the Paquis is good, in fact there are loads in geneva. Its only 40 minutes away

If you are willing to go to Basel, you should eat at Mük Dam http://www.xn--mkdam-kva.ch/ dornacherstrasse 220, Basel. It is only 10 minutes by walk from the train station and Pad thai are really good
I've tried it several times because I live really close.
