Punk Scene

Hey ya,

Just wondering if knows anything about the punk scene here in Zurich.....cos back home in the New Zealand we have this cool punk bar where heaps of local bands play. Does anyone know if there is a place like this in Zurich?

Re: Punk Scene

Don't ask me...I'm not really on good terms with Punks since one of them attempted to rip off my back windscreen wiper while I was waiting at the traffic lights...

Re: Punk Scene

You could also try Rot Fabrik, always a few alternative type people hanging out there . It's quite a cool place.

Re: Punk Scene

I can give you more info once my husband gets home, he's been involved in the Zurich punk scene since the 80s.

A friend of ours runs a punk record shop, Vinyl Pirate, in Zurich. It is located in the basement of Analph comics at Strassburgstrasse 10. Take tram 3 or 14 from the main train station to Stauffacher, and it is a two minute walk from there. Vinyl Pirate is open on Saturdays from 10 till 4, and is downstairs from Analph.

If you do go, tell Alain that Shelley sent you

To get a feeling for what the people might be like, here's a video: Swiss punk / metal / general misfits version of We are the World (Alain is the one singing in a record shop..imagine that )

Re: Punk Scene

Dolce Vita in Lausanne was a great place that got Lausanne going punk/rock scene wise.

It is now a squat but still going discreetly. There are some security concerns but the "Municipalite" is not too fussed and rather keep the place going instead of shut it down (them rules-obsessed Swiss he )

Another Luzern squat that does shows in the Sedel. Been around for something like 20 years and is a former prison, just next to a farm. Can't beat the atmosphere and they do some great shows there, too.

Quote:
The “Sedelhof,“ which was once a prison, has been used for cultural purposes since 1981 and now plays an important part in the Lucerne musical scene. Its 52 rehearsal rooms (the old prison cells!) provide space for a large number of bands and musicians and promote the exchange of ideas within the music scene.

As well as the rehearsal rooms, the building contains a club large enough to hold 250 people. The 8 to 12 concerts or parties it hosts each month cover the musical spectrum from punk to contemporary electronic music. The Sedel enjoys a good reputation particularly in the punk scene, and for most of the 80s was the only place in Lucerne for ”loud music“.

Re: Punk Scene

There is a rather good "squat" scene in Switzerland actually, however surprising this may sound. I do remember having a choice of about a dozen places to go to in Geneva in the late 80's, early 90's which had a bar and music being played. It has been reduced in recent years but you still have places like Rhino, Cave 12, Ilot 13 going on.

Damn, forgetting a coma does make a difference.

Wicked! Punk Rockers, who cares.

Anyway after watching the video, the song and the whole Punk image simply doesn't click. Especially, one particular guy who gave the bird after doing his verse. Conflicting image.

Actually, the OP cared. And she's the one I posted it for.

Haven't you ever heard of irony? Juxtaposition?

Re: Punk Scene

I was talking about Irony.

Punk Rockers who cares.

The "WHO" in this context is used to represent a specified antecedent, the antecedent being the "Punk Rockers". Perhaps, I should have used "THAT" but that is used to represent things.

Anyway nevermind, I quite like the video and one of the guys can really sing.

Evilshell, what do you think about daddies?

Are you asking where New Zealand is? Or are you asking where the bar is in New Zealand?

I can't believe that I have to say this...well New Zealand is in the Southern Hemisphere...South East of Australia.

The bar is in Wellington (capital city), called Valve.
