| | | Great Food and a night out at Blindekuh
I wanted to share this place with everyone. We just had the most amazing experience at a restaurant called the Blindekuh, on the Muhlebachstrasse in Zurich. The food was very good, and its all served totally in the dark by Blind people. The idea is to experience what its like to be blind. It is so dark in there you cant see your hand in front of your face, but all your senses are in overload in the total darkness. I can definitely reccomend not only the food , but the experience in itself was amazing.
Prices are not cheap a three course meal for Two including wine and beer was chf 160., but worth every penny for the experience. |

There's actually one in Basel as well. http://www.blindekuh.ch/indexe.html
I've been meaning to go for ages - but my other half isn't so thrilled about the idea!

I've been wanting to go there since before I got here, and its right by my work yet I still haven't got to it, now I am going to have to put it higher on my priority list.

This place sounds amazing. We have house-guests visiting soon and I wonder if this Blindekuh would be kid friendly. I mean 6 and 9/10 yr old kids, obviously not babies/toddlers Just thinking it might be a super cool experience for them too. Any thoughts? Anyone taken their kids along?

I've seen a couple of reviews on the forum about this restaurant. If you use the search function (advance search "blinde kuh", you wil get 5 threads. There's info in there somewhere.

friends from work went, they said the food OK but not fantastic, but the cool and very unique experience alone makes it worthwhile. FYI, its quite popular, you apparently need to book a bit ahead of time. En güte!

A freind went to a dinner there recently and told a great story of how his mate offered him some wine. "The glass is perfectly poured" he commented, "how did you manage that in the dark?". He then admitted that he had stuck his finger in the glass |

I've been there once quite a while ago.... certainly not cheap but not super expensive either. Food not bad, but alone not necessarily worth the price, but I think of course you go there for the experience, and a very unique experience it is. Obviously lots of fingers in food, trying to find out what is where on the plate before you attempt to spear it with your fork, etc.. I found the service to be very good (and amazingly accurate ).
One (for me, unexpected) thing I took away from it was the recognition of how 'visual' conversation can be (and also food enjoyment for that matter!) and how we generally take that for granted... and how different a social occasion can be once the visual aspect is removed.. no facial expressions, eye contact, body language, etc. even managing to remain focussed on a particular person who is speaking to you whilst being part of a largish group dining there together, all talking together... ('oh sorry, were you talking to me?!') not so easy as you might think!

To just get an idea/feeling of how the place works you can always go to the bar which is open from 9pm to 11pm. Get a drink and talk to people in the dark.
