Restaurant Recommendations for Zermatt?

Hi

We are heading up to Zermatt for Christmas.

Just wondering whether any one had any restaurants they would recommend?

Thank you

PH

Re: Restaurant Recommendations for Zermatt?

With a bit of luck, I can answer next month. I just applied for a job at the tourist information there

But I don't remember, unfortunately. It is 14 years ago, I was there last time.

If you're walking down the main street (away from the train station), eventually you'll walk to a little square. In front of you there is a restaurant, with wooden signs all over it, and a big one that says "Raclette". It's called Restaurant du Pont...and they have the best Rosti I've ever had!!

I was in Zermatt just this weekend! I visited the du Pont back in June but was not too impressed with the service (which we found found unfriendly), so this weekend we went next next door to the 'Weisshorn'. I thoroughly recommend the bacon and onion fondue!

Check out Chez Gaby http://www.zumtaugwald.ch/

and also the Weisshorn for some traditional swiss-mexican

Both great and very friendly service.

Re: Restaurant Recommendations for Zermatt?

Last time I was there we ate at two restaurants that belong to the same group: The Walliser Kanne and the China Garden:
http://www.chinagarden-zermatt.ch/

While the first one on main street was very "touristic" the food was ok... but what is not touristic in Zermatt? ...

The China Garden impressed us and was the best Chinese food we had in CH so far (including Beyond in ZH and other places with "real Chinese food"... my wife is from China, so we know whats real ). If you like Asian food I can recommend it.

Hello PH.

Sorry for being unable to answer your question prior to Christmas - I have only yesterday had online access again!

Hope you found what you were looking for.

The station restaurant is easy-going, pleasant and not too expensive for what you get.

The best restaurants in Zermatt are actually over in Cervinia especially Chalet etoile (quite glam, pricey, lovely location, very good food, chaotic ) service) or indeed any of the others which are cheaper but have noisome toilets.

Re: Restaurant Recommendations for Zermatt?

I second what Fraser says re Weisshorn and Chez Gaby.

Nellys Bar is a good place for a drink and a springbok steak. I'm still not sure if the place ever closes.

Avoid Grampis - it's a tourist trap and the service isn't great.

There's a fairly standard Molinos branch too.

For apre ski check out Papperla bar. You'll hear it before you see it
