Pre-ordering movie tickets online?

It seems that no matter how early I arrive to the theatres here in Zürich to purchase tickets, the only seats left when I arrive to the ticket counter are the first few rows. I am done with the neck pain....alas my question:

Is buying a Ciné-Card the only way to pre-order movie tickets online so as to avoid the long queues at the theatres and the best seats selling out? How much is this card and is there an expiration on it? Roughly how much do you save per movie ticket (trying to figure out if the card is even worth getting).

I went to the Ciné-Card website (www.kitag.com) to try to get some info., but it is in German, and I am having some difficulty understanding the details of the card and how to sign up for it.

Re: Pre-ordering movie tickets online?

You don't need a Cinecard to buy tix from Kitag, you can just pay with a credit card. We always buy online and don't have a Cinecard as you need a Crdit Suisse bank account to get one and we don't bank with them.

You don't need a CS account for the cinecard. CS just offers them as a "perk" if you have an account with them.

Its not perfect, but if you pass it through Google translate you can at least get the gist.

I stand corrected, I didn't know that. Thanks!

Re: Pre-ordering movie tickets online?

We always call the cinema in advance and reserve seats for any film we want to go and see. They give you a reservation code and you just turn up half an hour before the film starts to pay for and collect your tickets. So far we have always managed to get back row seats by doing this.

No – go to a movie theatre that offers free online ordering, e.g. http://www.pathe.ch/ or http://www.arena.ch/.

Re: Pre-ordering movie tickets online?

We got the cine card a few years ago, after going through what you went through many times....and with young children, going to the movies was a complete treat that would be ruined when we couldn't find tickets or have to go through the whole reservation thing just to get there and get just ok or not so great seats. Once I found out that with the cine card you can actually CHOOSE your seats I was sold. I think we paid like 50Sfr about 8 years ago. It doesn't expire and it was worth every penny (well, rappen)!

YOu can reserve or buy the tickets online. I usually reserve only and need to pick up 20 min. before, but once I made a mistake and bought them and it was the wrong time or movie (this was a few years ago, don't remember) but I called them and they were great! Very helpful and spoke English very well.

If you would like to get more info about the card but you prefer to have the info in English give them a call. They should be able to help you out with your application!

I found this number; 044 225 25 01 I hope it is the correct one, or they might give you another number to call.

Good luck!

Pathé now appears to only offer on-line bookings to their card holders. This seems to be a trend in Zurich - I totally disagree with it. I've always booked (and printed) online and agree that it's frustrating to show up and get seats all over the place.

Re: Pre-ordering movie tickets online?

you all realise that tickets bought with cinecard are 13CHFs each. that's a massive saving!

Two days ago, I was able to make an online booking with Pathé in Dietlikon without any registration by using my credit card:

http://www.pathe.ch/dietlikon/ -> 'Programmübersicht' -> etc.

I agree, online booking should be available to all customers, not only member card holders.

Re: Pre-ordering movie tickets online?

I am negatively surprised about Pathe...Is this Switzerland at all?? Isn't the experience supposed to be ordered and everything well organized? Instead we get chaos at the ticket desk, fight over the seats before more popular movies and NO RESERVATION AT ALL! Comeone! THIS IS SWITZERLAND, here you even reserve a place in the queue to the butcher! Why there is no online reservation of the seats??

No problem in Basel - you can order Pathé tickets online and print them off.
