Favourite Basel Bars

My fave drinking holes (in no particular order) are:

- KaBar / E.G. (Kaserne)
- Konsum
- Lallekönig
- Cargo Bar
- Linde
- Ono
- Vierte König
- Druckpunkt

Which are the coolest hostelleries in Basel?

Cheers,
Nick

Re: Favourite Basel Bars

I echo cargo, kabar and consum - all ace drinking holes. Ono's served excellent cocktails when it first opened but they've been a bit lack lustre of late......and i knows me cocktails, still - the no smoking gets the thumbs up!
I also like it upstairs in baragraph, acqua's nice if you can get a seat outside on a sunny evening.

All this talk of bars makes me want to sink a g&t.

I know this is a little off topic, but seen as you two seem to know your bars!
Where else is a good non-smoking place please? I don't go out to bars or such often, but the fact everywhere I've seen so far as been fille with yucky smoke has kept me away so far!

I liked Bar Rouge. A little expensive but the view was quite cool.

Re: Favourite Basel Bars

Hi,

well wait until April 2010 and they should all be no smoking....including the ones in Basel Land. I can't think of many non smoking bars at the moment in Basel. Though I think the Kuechlin only allows smoking in a small section of the bar.

Also epo ipso is smoke free during meal times, which means up to about 9:00 PM.

I agree with

- KaBar / E.G. (Kaserne)
- Lallekönig
- Linde
- Ono
- Vierte König

as I don't know the others. I also like the Unserbier brauerei when it is open.

Have fun

Martin

Re: Favourite Basel Bars

Konsum is my favourite!
Also like Cargo and KaBar - they are nice especially in the summer time.
And there is a fun little place near Rümlinsplatz that I really like - can never remember it's name, but it's like a curiosity shop but a bar. :-)

At Konsum the main part is non-smoking (at least at those occasions I've been there) - they have a separate room where people can disappear to to smoke.

Re: Favourite Basel Bars

My favourite wine bar has to be Rossario's. The selection of meats and cheese is also nice Sadly, it too is still a smoking bar and as it is quite small it can get quite smoky. Best bet is to sit outside in the summer and enjoy the fresh air!

Great Bars in Basel

Hi everyone,

Centrepoint is bringing back its Thank Goodness It's Friday event every Friday and I am looking for some good bar locations for it.

I need locations that are non smoking, have food if you're hungry, plenty of room for groups of people and have a nice atmosphere for an after work get together...

We'll be going to different locations so I would love to try out lots of different places.

We'll also be going out dancing after a few drinks and maybe something to eat, somewhere like Bar Rouge, Campari Club, Blinde Kuh, or some other interesting event going on in Basel...it all depends on what's available in Basel!

I'd love to hear your recomendations!

Last edited by Longbyt; 08.04.2011 at 17:36. Reason: This is the English Forum. Centrepoint gets quite a lot of mentions. I think in all fairness, one per post is enough.

In this weather it'd be nice to meet at a park or on the river - byob. maybe even a frisbee, ping-pong paddles and some nibbles. I can't imagine being inside on a nice night!!!

Re: Great Bars in Basel

I'm actually more interested in creating a thread here about great bars in Basel...there is only one on English Forum and its a few years old.

And I thought...what the heck...I'll go ahead and give people a heads up that TGIF at CP is coming back.

Shluggstubbe probably and it is a pivate club now (8 fr per year) it is moving up the road in may btw and is about my favorite drinking den in Basel

Also around Barfusserplatz there is cafe des artes, the Rio Bar and Barograph. Barograph and cafe des artes are smoking free.

Further up you have Jerrys bar (small crowded and kind a cool)

Near Spalentor there is also ONO which is good for cocktails...

Re: Favourite Basel Bars

I see that Eoipso hasn't got any votes yet, personally I like that place a lot, but go there way to few times
They have also good food.

Acqua is another cool place, also serving good food.

Re: Favourite Basel Bars

Hi,

yes Eoipso is a great place to go for a drink, especially if you live in the Gundeli.

Along Steinenvorstadt there a lot of places where you can sit outside, though I think I would count Jerry's bar as one of the worst bars on that street especially iif you don't smoke (It is a Fumoar) and don't like the rude owner.

They have great beer at the Kuechlin bar and friendly staff.

Have fun

Martn

City Beach is also a very good place to go, it's only open in the summer but very nice. only problem is they close at 0100.

sorry i also forgot to add Braunen Mutz (just opened in Barfusserplatz) the food is "ok" but the beer it's just great.

I would add my favorite: Noohn. Also has a restaurant with Japaneese cuisine and a roof top for summer chill outs.

Re: Favourite Basel Bars

Last week TGIF in Basel went to Campari Bar.

There were a lot of people but it didn't feel crowded at all between 6:30 and 8:30ish. There were practically no people inside and we even managed to find seats outside for around 20 people.

When the weather's nice it really is great. Not sure if I would go if it were raining...

Re: Favourite Basel Bars

TGIF recently went to Noohn and Bar Rouge...
I can only comment on how they are on Fridays though.

Noohn downstairs (the main bar) is pretty quiet if the weather is nice for after work drinks because everyone goes to the rooftop terrace which is really nice. Really big place, good food if you are hungry after 6pmish. And I saw a lot of interesting looking professional types for those of you who are single...

Bar Rouge was pretty crowded when I got there at 6:30pm on a Friday, but I managed to find a place to sit. If you've got a big group of people, you may want to reserve a couch in advance. Great views for afterworks drinks.

They have food and it's typical of what you will pay in Basel in general. The guacamole was very good! Around 9pm it starts turning into a disco and there is a room downstairs where you can do some salsa dancing or just sit around and watch other people do it. Wide variety of people although they charge a cover for anyone under 35!!

I posted a few photos of TGIF on our Facebook page here

This week (May 27th) we're going to EOIPSO...
