today's Tages-Anzeiger supplement, the zueritipp, ran a tiny item about a take-away place between Hardbruecke and the Helsinki which serves fish and chips, I believe it is here. Anyone know of this place, is it worth taking my long-neglected bottle of malt vinegar down for a try?

I often see that place but I am sure I heard from someone that it is the usual fish nuggets fair they call fish and chips over here - but please do report back if they are proper, or as proper as one can get here
A friend of mine recently took over this place and I just had her Fish and Chips for lunch, I think the price is 13 chufs (I got mine on the house). No, they are not "proper" English chip shop Fish and Chips but they are actually pretty tasty and Laura is very much a "foodie" so does try hard, she also does roast beef sandwiches and you can eat there in the garden or take away.

They don't have a web site but they do have a FB page here. Maybe we should arrange an EF event there one evening?

It's situated just under the flyover in between the Fritag and Prime towers.

Yeah the Nordsea in Zurch HB do fish and chips but they are more like fish nuggets. The Oliver Twist does fish & chips but they are not great. Paddy Reillys bar is by far the best fish and chips in Zurich although they don't have much competition. Always big fish and really good.

I find the fish at Paddys is always always mushy and goopy. The portion is huge, but it disappoints.

It's _supposed_ to be like that. Light and crispy batter is for foreigners or posh folk. The sort of people that'd serve it with tartare sauce. FFS. Salt, malt vinegar and ketchup (or HP if you must) are the only condiments it should come into contact with.

Re: Fish & Chips shop

All the fish and chip shops I have been to in the UK leave the skin on the fish when frying - and I do not like that.

There are quite a few restaurants that sell Egly fish, and although not fish and chips, it is quite good. There is a place in Wadenswil that is famous for its Egly, and they get the fish fresh from the Zurich lake. In Iceland we eat "Ysa i orly" (Haddock in orly batter) and that is without a doubt the best deep fried fish with chips I have ever tasted.

Re: Fish & Chips shop

I've had the fish & chips at Paddy in Zurich recently. It was ok as Swiss fish & chips go.

Better though has been Pickwicks in Baden. This may however have been better due to the beer or the exceptional company
The staff aren't half bad either.. if you like that southern twang.
