Mandir in Spalentor is an easy one to recommend, I've never had a bad curry there.

The best Indian food I had in the region is "Indien Palace" in Lörrach, 15 mins by car from Basel.
There is a Curry take-away in the new Stücki shopping center. Havent tried it, but it smelled great the day we were there | | This user would like to thank sankbhat for this useful post:

Hi
There is a new Indian restaurant just on the border of France; Elsasserstrasse. It's called Maharaja. I haven't had the chance to eat there yet but I spoke to the owner and he said he'd run an Indian restaurant in Lorrach for years; must be the one mentioned earlier in this post. Let us know if anyone goes!

There's a Spanish restaurant there now called Don Quijote (or similar). And it's really good actually. We've been there twice.
I remember about a month back going by on the tram, looking down and thinking "Don Quijote, that's a funny name for that Indian restaurant we've been to a few times". Next time on the tram I looked closer.
I'd recommend the Spanish!
Edit: while on the topic, the WORST meal I've ever had in Basel was at Mandir.

P.S
Would be good to see more South Indian restaurants in Switzerland. Some restauranters i believe think that 'South Indian cuisie on its own' will not sell on a regular basis, but they do sell like for eg Madras Curry House and Kobals in Zurich. There are a wide variety of dishes in the cuisines of each of the 4 Southern states that a frequent customer would order a different kind of dish every time (its not like Oh it's boring to eat the same cuisine every time!).
One problem i observed with Indian restuarants in Switzerland (both South and North cuisine) is that (most of them) dishes that are good on their own but do not combine with each other as a whole to make a great meal (a good Roast Dinner for eg needs a good gravy to or something to bring them together, enough empasis needs to be given to bringing the various dishes together into a tasty meal overall), and try to make sure that the dishes in a Thali and to an extent in a Buffet are selected carefully so that they are in harmony with one another.

I went there two weeks ago with the EF and it was good, went there again last week with the missus and it was even better. My wife actually abandoned her already nice Chicken Jalfrezi to help me out with my Lamb Chilli Curry | | The following 2 users would like to thank Castro for this useful post:

The pic is obsolete and that is where the Spanish restaurant is.
I thought the Indian restaurant was above average, but not great. We went there a few times. No matter - it's gone now!
