Hi all

I had my fourth visit to Grotto Reale in Wiedikon tonight and I was dismayed; this is a great restaurant and I just don't think they're getting the patronage they deserve. Normally I wouldn't recommend such a find to a wider audience, but I really don't want them to close their doors! Time to bring in the EF community

They are billed as a Mediterranean restaurant and they serve principally Spanish and Italian dishes. I've taken both friends and family there and we have never had a bad meal. The steak choice/quality is especially good. I also recommend the Mistkratzerli. Fabulous chicken! Service is attentive and friendly, they have created a really nice atmosphere.

Prices are Züri-like but still quite reasonable.

Thanks for the info. I will go there shortly, even if just for nostalgia. Right across from there is the Aemtler-Schulhaus where my brother went to during two years, to Mr Zingg, who on his frequent visits to my parents also for me became an important advisor in a difficult and important period. So I will take a glass of Rioja there in honour of that great gentleman !

The best place IMHO in Wiedikon is the Stef's Zentraleck:

Grotto Reale is certainly recommendable and a good choice, but be sure not too eat too much of the bread with the lovely butter, you'll fill up before the main course.

If you're looking for a decent Cordon Bleu - look at the "Rosenburg", walking distance from Grotto Reale (Zentral/Badenerstrasse) and try the Raclette / Bacon version, be aware this is more of a traditional "Swiss Beiz" and not Yuppie safe :-)

I've been meaning to go to Stef's Zentraleck but on the one occassion I decided to they were booked out. Must keep it high on the list of places to try.

Be aware - rumour has it that the Stef's Zentraleck won't be open that long and the current guys are moving to a different venue.
