[looking for] Persian / Iranian Restaurants [Basel area]

I would like to know if there are any Iranian / Persian restaurants in or around Basel.

I havnt found any iranian restaurants in Basel, the closest I have got is Freiburg.

Im also interested in finding an iranian restaurant.

I know that it is nowhere near Basel but I can highly recommend Le Palais Oriental in Montreux.

Specialities from Iran, Lebanon and Morocco.

It looks like there may be one in Bern... which is about as far away as Zurich. I do miss a good Chelo kebab, washed down with some ice cold Doogh

There are apparently none in Basel.

There is one close to Lausanne: Le Jardin Persan, av. des Deux-Ponts 13, 1009 Pully. Tél. 021 728 01 30

And there are several in Geneva, this one seems to be the best: Khayyam, Louis-Casaï 60 1216 Cointrin 022 734 86 00, http://www.khayyam.ch/

I know it is not the same, but Aladin in a great Lebanese restaurant that is in Barfuzerplats (yes I mispelled this sorry

), we went there last friday and it was delicious. Not cheap though...

A slightly more reasonable alternative to Aladdin is Damas Cafe (Next to the puppet museum and directly opposite the Basel tourist office in Barfussaplatz). They serve pretty standard Syrian/Lebanese food which won't win any awards but its pleasant enough. I would recommend you go for the Mezza option (veggie or meat) since its good value and you'll get to sample all their dishes.

How much is the price range?

Would love to go, but I'm a bit cost-sensitive these days.

Not really in Basel, but I had quite good Persian food in Zurich Altstetten, in a place called Parsian on Badener Strasse. There was no belly dancing when I was there and the place was empty... but food was good (but not cheap).

It is a couple of years since I was there but the prices were not outrageous. They were comparable to other restaurants in the area. The appearance of the place gives the impression that it is going to cost a fortune, but that wasn't my experience.

I found the atmosphere of the place to be as important as the meal itself.

ohhh so do I, especially being friday, remind me of our usual trip to Aloonak (lon) and now i'm gonna think about Chelo Kebab allday-))

once being homesick, hubby got me a takeaway from Parsian Res. (ZH), food was ok, can't remember being pricey...

I cannot recommend Khayyam at all! They make propaganda in several internet sites for restaurants in Geneva, but the indicated prices there are 40% lower than the ones you are finally confronted with in the Restaurant... The service is lousy and unfriendly. The food not really Iranian, but a kind of Middle Eastern mix...

Actually the best Irany Resturant was in Lugano but unfortunately since last 5 months is closed.

None of the restaurants I went to were any good.

It is Nooruz, if it's nt too late, look out for events celebrating the New Year; there is bound to be food, then make some freinds and get yourself invited to their place, the universites may have cultural events.

Aternatively if you can read Farsi buy the Rosa Montazami cookbook and get cooking. Chelo kebab and doogh are so easy. Sumak may be a little difficult to find. Mahi Sefid (white fish) you can find at the Jewish delicatessen.
