For those who are looking to save a bit on dining, entertainment, and sweet etcetera (only in several cities), here are just two ways:

1) http://www.prozentbuch.ch/
The site provides information on discount books (what's included, where to buy, etc) for Basel, Bern, Luzern, and Zürich. The discounts are valid November 1, 2009 - October 31, 2010. I used one for Bern this year: if there are at least two of you dining, drinking, culturally enriching yourselves, etc, it's definitely worth paying CHF. 35 for the book.

2) http://www.laclebernoise.ch/index.php
This one works for Bern or Lausanne only and is more expensive (the price depends on how many you buy), but it covers the whole meal in restaurants for a second person, not just the main dish (unlike the prozentbuch above) and has a wider choice of eateries. It's valid starting either January 1 or February 1 (I am not sure) and has to be ordered online before the end of November. I haven't used this one myself but planning this year.

there's also a shop in bern old town that sells english paperbacks for 1 chf. i don't know the name of the shop, but it's on the main thoroughfare, situated about half way between the zytglogge and the bridge preceding the bear pits.
