If I can't afford sushi, I'll try for ramen and gyoza. Does anyone know a good place? It doesn't look as if Yooji's, Sala, or Isakaya have it on the menu, and though Samurai does I'd love to find it a bit cheaper (ha).
Hi Noisette, if you have a chance to come to Basel, you can try Namamen (http://www.namamen.ch/dynamic/page.asp?seiid=2). They also have gyoza, but I would try them at another place.

Re: Sushi in Zurich

Globus has really good sushi and it's not too pricey.

Re: Sushi in Zurich

I used to eat Sushi but stopped after reading about several health risks:

1) Mercury and other heavy metals in fish:

http://health.usnews.com/usnews/heal.../17mercury.htm
http://www.pollutionissues.co.uk/fis...amination.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_in_fish

2) Parasites and bacteria buildup:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/ar...raw-truth.html
http://seafood.ucdavis.edu/pubs/parasite.htm
http://www.medicinenet.com/19929
http://www.schemamag.ca/archive2/200...i_horrors.html

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...101201969.html
http://www.ktipp.ch/themen/beitrag/1...hlechtesten_ab

3) Carbon monoxide

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2004Oct26.html
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/06/dining/06TUNA.html
http://www.sushikurier.ch/ueber-yoko...05-k-tipp.html

These are expensive risks to take. Organic food costs around the same price but doesn't have these health risks.
Some of the parasites can live several years in your intestines without a trace.
The ELISA (enzyme linked immunosorbent assays) test can be done to check for certain parasites.
More info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ELISA

Pregnant women and young children should be especially cautious.

Seafood, in a land so far from the sea? No thanks. I like my fish to have seen the sea recently.

Re: Sushi in Zurich

Resurrecting this thread to confirm, as other posters have pointed out elsewhere (thanks, Summerrain), that Ginger in Zurich is excellent, and IMO it has the best sushi I've had in this city so far since I moved here almost 2 years ago.

One complaint: they took FOREVER to bring out my shrimp gyoza, however, this small fault was overcompensated by the heavenly goodness of their green tea ice cream. I was invited to dinner there by a girlfriend of mine, and was happy to try it out when she proposed the place, since I'd heard good things about it. Great idea!

I am ready to go back anytime
