Excalibur: Celtic, Rock and Opera... all in the same sentence!

So... I have seen the "Celtic Rock Opera" Excalibur advertised all over the city of Zurich, and, since I occasionally enjoy looking at a gentleman in leather trousers gurning over a hot guitar, while my Learned Companion enjoys "Celtic" music and opera, I was wondering if it is worth seeing.

Has anybody seen it in Germany? Is it as dreadful as it looks? Are there any redeeming features (comedy value, confirming that Fairport Convention are still breathing without artificial assistance, or similar)?

Even if you haven't seen it, please do feel free to weigh in with your opinion before my Learned Companion actually goes and buys the tickets...

Thank you.

I was checking this show out yesterday so would also be interested in an answer. The tickets are about 60% sold so some people think it is worth going to.

By the same token it would appear that some people do not think it's worth going.

TBH I haven't a clue who or what you are talking about Mr Breakfast. I can only assume it's a band I haven't heard of, and therefore can only come to the conclusion that if I haven't heard of them then they can't be any good.

Re: Excalibur: Celtic, Rock and Opera... all in the same sentence!

It is not on until next month so still plenty of time to sell tickets

It is not a band, it is billed as a Rock Opera. Johnny Logan is involved somehow, I reckon you will have heard of him?

Edit: here is the link to the official website: http://www.excalibur-show.com/en/home.html

Re: Excalibur: Celtic, Rock and Opera... all in the same sentence!

There is a certain morbid facination in wondering WTF the following
combination of musicians and groups must sound like...

Alan "let's get another three symphony orchestras in here " Parsons
Johny "fer gawd's sake, stop winning" Logan
Les "I'm the real Barclay James Harvest, not him" Holroyd
John "Supertramp" Helliwell
Martin "Jethro Tull" Barre
Fairport "good god, look how many of them are still alive!" Convention
Jacqui "Lyke Wake Dirge" McShee
Konan "bagpipes" Mevel
Corvus "more bagpipes" Corax
James "more fairport convention" Wood
Judy "you sing it in italian, Mr Bocelli, whilst I'm singing it in german" Weiss
Pat "let's have another rock guitarist" O'May
Luc "do we have a keyboard man yet?" Bertin
Cecile "another singer won't hurt" Corbel
Simone "hang upsidedown n spin" Heitinga
and not forgetting...
Michael "Kommissar" Mendl
Feuervogel, stilt walkers and people doing somersaults
Celtic Feet Dance, for services to tap dancing

I think I'll resist the temptation...

...at least until they announce the special guest stars, Status Quo

I'm utterly disappointed they couldn't find a role for Lemmy.

Sounds like a chamber of horrors. Should do well in Switzerland

And then he said it was more rockic than celtic, quite a show and was worth the trip. Et voilà.
