Anyone knows if they'll charge you again for new 3D glasses? I still have mine from Avatar and dont see the point of paying for new ones. | | | | | you got to keep them? We had to pay for them and then return them in Pathe Basel!!! |

It depends on what format you saw the film in.
If you saw it in RealD: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RealD_Cinema , you got to keep your glasses because they're inexpensive.
Pathé tends to use Xpand3d: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XpanD_3D , each pair costs around 100 francs, so you don't get to keep them, but the image quality is by far the best. Still, a 4 franc surcharge gets to be a bit much after a few films.
There's also another format, Dolby3D, but not that many cinemas in Switzerland use it, take a look: http://www.dolby.com/consumer/produc...-a-cinema.html . I'm not sure if they allow you to keep your glasses or not.
Hope this helps.

I am not going to watch it and spoil all my imaginations about the wonderfully described characters in the novel.

I saw it last night in Zurich.
Pretty dissapointed tbh. Not least because it looks incredable. The production design is simply gobsmacking.
Unfortunately the script & performances just felt flat. It didn't feel dark enough, the pace was relentless & Depp basically phoned in a mix of Capt. Jack, Scissorhands & general 'wacky Johnny'.
Feels like Disney had a too large an influence over the whole thing.
But it was a visual treat.

I don't know how he got the cash together to film that one | | | | | You wouldnt believe how Hollywood spreads the love around some times. While trying to reboot the Superman franchise in the late 90's/early 00's Warner Bros. signed Tim Burton to direct and Nicholas Cage to star. Long story short (costume redesigns, about 15 heavy script rewrites etc. ) They decided to can the whole thing - Burton walked away with 5 million US without lifting a finger and Cage got 15 I think. Burton used his gains to fund Sleepy Hollow |

I am going to the Sihlcity movie theater on Monday at 6pm to watch it, at least on this day the price is reduced so wont be that disappointed in the unexpected/rare case that the movie is not that good |

I do like the fact Matt Lucas (Little Britain) is in it though | | | | |
I totally agree he ruined Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I'm afraid he'd ruin Alice in Wonderland for me. I'm curious about the 3D visuals, but expect the story to go through the dark and bizarre deep end of Burton's psyche.
I'm trying to avoid watching this one, but am getting pushed to go by those around me.

It was visually stunning and entertaining and I thought Depp and Helena Bonhem Carter were brilliant in their roles as the Hatter and Queen of Hearts. I loved some sublime inventions by Burton like the stressed out little monkeys, and frogs, as well as the brilliant vocal performances by Alan Rickman and Stephen Fry.
Having said that, dont go in expecting the usual Tim Burton darkness. I blame Disney
I didnt go to Arena but ended up in Abaton (Hardbrucke) instead. We got to keep the glasses but I have to say that the 3D experience at the Abaton is shades better than the one I had at Arena.

I saw Alice in Wonderland yesterday at the IMAX 3D in London and I have to say, despite having a pretty good seat I was a bit disappointed. I was expecting Avatar like quality, but instead it was a blurry picture. Maybe that was just because of the special IMAX 3D format, but the visuals actually ruined it. I expected it to be far better after watching Avatar, which was breathtaking. I wished I had seen Alice in Wonderland in normal 2D to be honest. But despite the poor picture quality the story is ok, the characters are all adorable. The story wasn't too exciting and I felt a bit disappointed by the end but all in all it's a "watchable" movie. No comparison to The Corpse Bride or Nightmare Before Christmas, let alone Edward Scissorhands though. I had the pleasure of watching Nightmare before Christmas remastered in 3D a few years back and it was simply amazing back then. Shame, Alice in Wonderland at the IMAX 3D wasn't as good as I expected....

We just saw it and loved it. Especially the fat cheshire cat
Depp and Bonham-Carter were good and it was entertaining. I can't compare it to the book cause I have never read it. I could never finish books by Lewis Carrol

The movie was OK. My feelings were very similar to Avatar, great 3D sequences, wonderful background and mood. Unfortunately, Alice didn't have a plot worthy even for a 5 year old. Mr. Depp done good as did the Alice character, Helena played the Queen of Hearts like Queen Elizabeth from the second Blackadder series IMO and should pay royalties to Ben Elton and co. A decent flick, worth seeing in 3D, but I wouldn't bust a gut to make too much of an effort to catch it, it's so Narnia, Edward Scissorhands with a smattering of overbearing Disney production. Apart from the rabbits and hedgehogs, the nasty animals were all rejects from Lord of the Rings or The Golden Compass, shame, it could have been better.

As I started the thread, I suppose I should post my comments. We saw it in Xpand 3D, so the image quality was excellent. As above, visually stunning, but it didn't have the "blow me away" effect that Avatar did. We certainly enjoyed it for the entertainment factor. Depp was excellent (though I'm not sure about the big-eye-thing) and HBC inded was Queenie. Alice reminded me of a young Gwyneth Paltrow, and pulled off a pretty sound performance. I though Matt Lucas was great as the twins and Stepehn Try and Alan Rickman are always flawless voice characters. OK, so the story was on a par with Avatar, but as a spectacle and from pure enjoyment value, leave your brain at home and go see it. In 3D preferably.
