I've got a couple of friends coming over at Easter time, and one of they many things they would like to do while here is go to a bar(s) that have live music.

Can anyone recommend anyway? I thought Niederdorf would be the best place to head to and hope for the best, but if anyone knows anywhere that would defo have a band playing I'd really appreciate the tip!

There´s a few decent places which often have live bands down Langstrasse too, particularly Cocuna

where do you live? which kind of live music you prefer?

if you go to city, and if you like jazz music, I will tell to go to jazzbaragge99, it is between Grossmunster and belleve,as I remember the entrance is 4 free.

I live in Oerlikon, so the city would be perfect but I guess it doesn't really matter where it is. The main thing is our visitors have a good time and come back again

The Splendide bar (on a side street off Niederdorf) has a live pianist most days. The style is genrally a mix of popular tunes 60s to 90s style, but also some jazz stuff (depending on who's playing). If people get drunk enough one or two may start dancing.

Hotel Central also has live piano on many days.

The Andorra Bar, at Münstergasse 20 (near the Grossmünster), has live jazz every second Monday with no cover charge - so, in the next little while, that would be March 22nd, April 5th, April 19th...and so on. http://www.andorra.ch/

However, for a place that has live music every night, one of the first places that springs to mind is the Casa Bar nearby - http://www.casabar.ch/ - expensive drinks, but good music and no cover. Not only jazz music, also blues, funk, and other styles.

The previously mentioned JazzBaragge (at mehrspur jazz club) is stellar for jazz music, I agree, and they have fabulous wednesday jams - but if you're looking for a "bar/pub/restaurant"-type atmosphere, as opposed to a "jazz club/music-listening venue"-type atmosphere (if you get my drift..?), I'd perhaps save this one for another time. Your call, though.
