Re: English movies in Bern and Geneva

In Bern, Westside is a good option with a large selection of movies:

Language indicated in front of movie name; English comes often with french/german subtitles.

For a complete search you can use Cineman: http://www.cineman.ch/fr/seances/
If you own an iPhone, Cineman is available as application.

Re: English movies in Bern and Geneva

Are English speaking movies generally in English with subtitles, or are they dubbed? I seem to remember something about dubbing on one Swiss visit, and know many TV shows are dubbed. I much prefer subtitles so just wondering.

Thanks.

Re: English movies in Bern and Geneva

You find both actually.
On TV, movies are often broadcasted in "dual channel": you can select the dubbed or the original version.

Re: English movies in Bern and Geneva

From my experience most of the major movies are shown in their original language (Eng) and some are dubbed, check

http://www.cineman.ch/en/showtimes/p...=Bern&spoken=E

For example,

The Book of Eli
14:15, 20:00 Egf | 14/16y.

Capital E = Spoken English
Lower case g+f = german and french subs

Too easy.

Excellent, I'm glad about that. And thanks for how to decipher the code! The German subtitles might also help my German practise!

Re: English movies in Bern and Geneva

In the Swiss French part of the country the codes used for the movies are as follows:

VO - Original Version (so if an English film, it will be English with F/D subtitles)

VF - French Version (dubbed in French)

For OV movies i usually visit the Pathè Cinemas. In Geneva theres one at the bus station and another one in Balexpert shopping mall.
