Re: Indian Curry in Baden

Has anyone else been to the "Spicy" Restaurant in Baden. It is on Melingerstrasse.

http://www.spicybaden.ch/

I went past it on the bus to Jumbo today and was thinking of treating the missus (OK me also) for her birthday this evening.

I only found one comment on EF- could have been the manager who made it so I was looking for a review from someone who has been on EF for more than a few posts. No offence to the OP.

I will probably go for it anyway and will let you know the Vindaloo scharfness later, The menu is interesting - includes Thai and Mexican dishes.

Fingers crossed.

It would be great to hear your opinion, I go past on the bus every day and have often wondered if it is worth a visit. Weirdly I was thinking hubby and I may go for his birthday.

Re: Indian Curry in Baden

Just got back and it was not too bad at all.

The Onion Bhajis were onion rings in pakora type batter, but tasty. Somosa were home made and nice.
Only problem was that I was hoping for a pickle selection with the poppadoms - you know -like chopped onions, mango chutney, lime pickle, Raiti, yoghurt and mint etc., but I think you had to pay 5 CHF extra for pickles. I asked for some lime pickle and the waiter happily gave us some mixed pickle. I usually use these pickles and sauces to spice up the "dry" starters in Indian restaurants.

Loved the main course - I asked for chicken vindaloo and the missus ordered Chicken Tikka Masala which was pretty tasty. We asked for, and received, two delicious slightly crispy and buttered chapatis to help with the "free rice" provided. I did ask for extra hot vindaloo, but it was only quite hot, but very very tasty and perfect for me since it has been a while since I have had any spicy food.

Two Indian businessmen on another table had a totally vegetarian selection and it looked and sounded (from their comments) really nice. Will try this next time (Bhindi and Chick peas I think).

The decor was tastefully Indian and there was some nice music in the background.

Including a mineral water and coffee, the bill came to 82 CHF for two - not bad for CH and I think I got off quite lightly for a birthday meal.

We will go again quite soon. Maybe I will try the lunchtime 15 CHF special as well.

I think that it is definitely worth a visit if you live nearby - but I must admit that I was starving after using a jack hammer all day and have been dreaming of Indian nosh for weeks.

One thing I learned is that bus number 303 from Baden bus station does not stop at the restaurant, so we had to walk down from Badener Tor - only 5 minutes and downhill.

Re: Indian Curry in Baden

Thanks for the review! Sounds good, we are veggies so it was great to hear there is a decent vegetarian menu. It's a good sign that Indian nationals eat there too, and I agree, not a bad price.
The number 6 bus to Rütihof and no. 7 to Birmenstorf from Baden Bahnhof West stop there if you don't fancy the walk next time.

Great review! The food sounds lovely.I think we'll be making a trip there in the future too.

(Could this be a venue for a 'Baden Curry Night'?)

danb123 has made some interesting contributions
We went for the lunch buffet. The food was very good. It was 17.50chf including the buffet, some naan, and a very good chai tea, however the chai was quite small so I ordered a 2nd one (4.50chf). Overall we were satisfied.

Regards,
Dan

We spotted it when driving by, did a u-turn with high hopes. It was disappointing...we would not go back.

Re: Indian Curry in Baden

Last week I went for the lunchtime help yourself and was quite underwhelmed. When you pay the extra dosh to order a la carte, it is a bit better.
One day I will find a cheap and tasty place. (without having to going back to the UK).
Been here 13 years, so I am not holding my breath.

Everything is relative - when you are so dying for a decent curry, almost anything will do. I can cook Indian myself, but it is not the point - I just like to go out and get something which is just a matter or choosing and ordering.
BTW - anyone know where you can buy fresh coriander?

Depending on how far you are to Zurich, Tandoori BBQ's buffet is great option when you get a craving for curry.

You can find fresh coriander at Coop in the fresh herbs section.

Thanks Mag - will give it a try this weekend.
Looks like a nice menu. Bit expensive though.

The food is really good, and not so expensive if you go at lunch time during the week (if that's an option for you). The Saturday evening meals are more expensive, but there are more choices - and it's all you can eat. We had a very nice EF curry evening there a few years ago, and I've been going back ever since.

The only problem is that you might start craving their curry after going there!
