Re: Where can I find... Castile soap

In case, here are some photos of the soap they have at the store in Lausanne.

200 gm - 3.95
400 gm - 5.00

They also have a palm oil version (3rd photo) in the 200 gm size.

Re: Where can I find... Castile soap

I bought a 300g cube of decent olive oil soap from a vendor in the market in Bern Thursday. (I know it's not Castile, but I was really only looking for olive oil-based soap.) He also had smaller, basilikum-scented bars.

Sorry, but I don't know whether he's there every day or every week — but he did say his colleagues also sell what was quite a variety of soaps in other cities, so I assume he meant on market days.

If you're willing to pay for the international shipping, you can buy Dr. Bronner's liquid castile soap here, through amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/Dr-Bronners-Ma...A2UILHLLDUMCAM

I've purchased through this seller (AmericaRx) a number of times and was always very pleased with them. They have a huge assortment of beauty and cleaning products. They sell a number of other castile soaps as well.

Can you not make your own castile soap? It's awfully simple, but you'll need some sodium hydroxide.

Yikes! Yeah, that is way too much for shipping.

I've found that a lot of eBay sellers offer very reasonable int'l shipping. Here's one selling 8 oz. of Bronner's castile soap for about $10 plus $13 in shipping:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dr-Bronners-...item1e7b5a4534

But July really isn't very far away. Hopefully the Sun will even be shining by then!

Where do you get the sodium hydroxide from , druggerie ?
Is there a specific swiss German name for it ?
Most of the soap making vedios advice caution while making it.
I plan to search for it in my next Germany trip and if that too fails to yield it, will have to start from scratch.

You need gloves, a well-ventilated room, an electric blender, some water, olive oil and lye (which another thread advises me that it can be found in the apotheke).

It's not a tough process. I don't tend to make it anymore because hard water and real soap don't seem to work too well together. You get a better result from liquid detergent washes when hard water is a problem.

Just be sure to not add water to the lye instead of the other way around. You might end up causing a small chemical reaction you don't want.

Re: Where can I find... Castile soap

Hey...you can find Dr. Bronner's Castile soap at the American Apparel store on Rennweg in Zurich. It's right in the front by the cash registers. I just bought some yesterday...16 francs for 16 ounces of the liquid peppermint soap (that's the only one i found yesterday but have seen more varities in the past). You might be able to buy it from their website too...i've done that in the past as well. Hope this helps!!!!

Hi all,

It seems you've already found several places, but if anybody is still looking, I just saw Dr. Bronner's at one of the stores in Frau Gerold's Garten in Zurich (http://www.fraugerold.ch/) and found it also on www.feelunique.com, it looks like they deliver to CH and they claim delivery is free.

Re: Where can I find... Castile soap

Hi, I was just looking around for liquid castile soap because I want to make shampoo, and came across this tip:
An alternative liquid castile soap recipe can be made faster by grating a couple 4 oz. (118 ml) bars of castile soap and mixing it in a large pot with 4 cups of water. Stir until the soap pieces dissolve then add 2 tbsp. (30 ml) of vegetable glycerine. Continue stirring until the glycerine has dissolved. Transfer the soap to a jar and cover. You can use this soap right away.
This from this page where they explain the soap making from scratch (which looks too daunting to me!), but the soap and glycerine will be easy to find.

Re: Where can I find... Castile soap

My physical therapist sells Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap. He is in Bern. He doesn't have a large supply right now but will get more soon. I think he has lemon, rose, lavender and tea tree. If you want to order some, send me a message and I will forward it to him.

Re: Where can I find... Castile soap

I found this page http://www.dhania.ch/bronner but will not order from them - too expensive compared to amazon.de.

For "Dr Bronner Almond Castile Liquid Soap 1000ml" with shipping I'm at EUR21.26 which I believe is except from import tax horrors.

Hi, I recently saw the products in Zurich at a shop called Egli. The shop is located in the Loewenstrasse, next to the Nespresso store.

Re: Where can I find... Castile soap

Just wanted to add TRANSA to the list of places to buy Dr Bronner's liquid soap. They seem to have the full range of scents and sizes.

473mL cost 19.90 today at the TRANSA on Lagerstr. downtown (near HB, Sihlpost).
