31 married female with 3 year old child hopes to find other Eglish speaking Moms in the area. My daughter misses playing with people who "speak like [her]". She will learn German shortly, but in the mean time it would be great to find English speaking friends!

I was thinking of starting a play group that could meet once a week in varying towns within half an hour of Lucern. Interested persons could sign up to host a playdate in their area, so as not to place to much responsibility on any one person. Please respond if you are interested with:

1) Your name and age
2) The name and ages of your child(ren)
3) The town in which you reside
4) Whether you would be willing to host an event. This could be at your house or at a local park/attraction.
5) The dates/times that work best for you.

P.S. Any chance the site could get a "parent" forum link?

I think you might get more results if you put it in the "family/health" forum, perhaps. I would have seen it sooner there at least - I guess there are other mums who don't check every forum too.

I'm in your catchment area, but if you put together my 20 minutes south of Luzern and someone else's 20 minutes north you're looking at a 40-minute drive each way for those of us who don't actually live in the city. Once an older child is in kindergarten, that can get tricky, as they all come home for lunch and are in school less than 2 hours in the afternoon. People might prefer to have just a couple of central locations to go to. Just a thought, I could be entirely wrong.

I'd be interested if you find enough other interest - or your little one can just come and play with mine one day. She's two and a half. I'm happy to host/be visited any time except Tues, Wed and Fri mornings, from August.

I'm not easy putting the kids' names on a public forum (even though I'm sure the registered members are all lovely!)

By the way there are already some English-speaking playgroups in Luzern too. I am aware of two - one you have to pay for, not sure about the other - could get hold of contact details for you if you like. There's also a cafe with (paid) play area which is run by English-speakers and therefore tends to have expats in with their little ones. Kids under five play while parents have grown-up conversation (or read) - a nice change! Probably you already know it, if not it's called aPlace4us and I expect you can find it on google.

Thanks for you input Mika. The post has been moved. I completly understand regarding not posting your childrens names. I did not consider the exteremely public nature of the forum. So, strike that request all.

I will continue to gauge interest and proceed as deemed necessary by the majority.

Just to let you know there is a mums & tots group in Luzern, we meet every 2 weeks and go to different places. In the summer we meet every week and go to the Lido depending on weather. I have a 4 year old and a 15 month old.

We have recently moved to Stans area, 20 minutes south of Luzern and I have a 4 and half yr old girl and a 2 and half yr old boy. We would love to meet up with other Mums and children and would be happy to have people to ours to play. To all who have responded either via this thread or PM, it appears that Thursdays would work best for most people. I am vacationing for a month starting in August. Thus, I propose that we start the playgroup on September 8 and continue to hold it every Thursday at 10:00. I will be happy to host the initial group and, during that meeting, we can sign up to host future playgroups. Does that sound okay?

In the meantime, if anyone else wants to join please let me know! I will send out the address as the initial meeting approches. Until then, enjoy your summer and the prospective of an informal play group!

I will be moving to Buochs in about a month. I have a 4 year old and a newborn. I would love to have information about the playgroup in Lucerne/Stans if it still exists.

Also, do they have recreation departments in Switzerland with inexpensive classes for kids/adults like there are in the US?

I would live information regarding the play group in lucerne you mentioned. My husband and I and our 6 mo old will be moving to Stan's February 1st. Also I am interested in meeting any English speaking moms in the area!
