Over 340 children benefit from our bilingual English/German program which optimally prepares children for any future schooling options, while ensuring a comfortable integration into the community as part of a population of students that barely fluctuates. A commitment to high standards drives our highly educated and dedicated team in providing children with an enriching and well-rounded education using a proven combination of international and local educational curricular requirements. Our motivating and positive environment encourages respect, openness, team work and achievement. Comprehensive service including before and after school care, holiday care, afterschool classes, homework supervision and onsite preparation of meals and snacks meets the needs of the modern family. After school classes such as choir, football, dance, art, Russian, Chinese, Spanish, Playball, pottery and Girl Power round out the days at OBS. Partnership between school and parents is valued and nurtured through multiple family activities, information evenings, parent/teacher meetings, classroom visit mornings and student performances. Children need not already be bilingual in order to enter our school. We offer special small group language support to help children catch up in the new language and new children are accepted at any time as long as space is available. Our new Jump Start program makes it possible for children to enter the bilingual system even in grades four, five and six.

New in August 2012 – Bilingual Gymnasium/Bilingual High School

In August of 2012 the Obersee Bilingual Gymnasium will accept its first students offering them a multitude of choices including bilingual Matura, International Baccalaureate Program and Secondary School. The comprehensive bilingual program will enable students to choose paths of education that suit their future plans, while at the same time keeping all options open. One Gymnasium program will be language focused and include Latin, another will be science and technology focused, both require exceptional academic skills being demonstrated. The IB program gives students the chance to shine at their highest level and the secondary school program will meet local requirements, and all will be offered bilingually. Obersee Bilingual Primary School

Obersee Bilingual School offers students the academic, artistic and practical life skills required to become part of a challenging multicultural and multilingual global society. A proven combination of the high standards of the Cantonal and International curricula prepares children for all future academic options – International High School, Bilingual Gymnasium, Gymnasium or local Secondary School and enables them to enter a job market that more and more frequently prefers multilingual applicants. Motivated teaching personnel ensure that children enjoy a holistic, stimulating and supportive learning environment that encourages each child to achieve his or her best and develop skills of life-long learners – decision making, leadership, team work and presentation skills are valued and encouraged. Daily outdoor play in the forest or forest playground, combined with our sports program which includes practice in a gym hall as well as skiing and swimming, ensure ample fresh air and physical activity are part of the program.

Obersee Bilingual Kindergartgen

A dedicated team of kindergarten teachers and assistants implements a proven curriculum is combining Canton requirements and the International curriculum. The classroom offers a complete range of learning and play materials as well as a reading corner, dolls, sand, blocks, animals. Creative activities are offered every day within a richly structured program that includes small group activities in which language skills are developed. Early phonics awareness, reading and mathematics programs give each child the chance to learn at their pace and prepare them for a successful entry into our bilingual primary school. Weekly sport sessions in the sport hall and daily visits to the forest or forest playground ensure a good measure of fresh air and physical activity compliment each day’s activities. Second year kindergarten children also take part in our skiing and swimming program.

Obersee Bilingual Prekindergarten

With years of experience behind it, our prekindergarten program encourages the social, emotional, physical, creative and cognitive development of children ages 2 through 4 years. Each day includes outdoor play in the nearby forest or playground, song, dance, circle-time, crafts, story-time, special language development groups and free play time. Special gymnastics activities and parachute games increase social and physical development opportunities while rounding out the fun of the week. Our proven educational strategy offers your child the social, cognitive and linguistic advantages of early bilingualism while awakening and nurturing their natural desire to learn. The program runs from 9:00 to 15:45 every day, with an option of before school care beginning at 7:30 and afterschool care until 18:00. Half-days are also available.

Obersee Bilingual Babycare

Within lovingly decorated and appointed rooms a devoted and well-educated team of caregivers gently guides children through a special daily program that includes free play indoors and out, visits to the forest, crafts, finger rhymes and songs in both languages. Each child’s individual social, emotional and developmental needs are taken into account in the daily program. For children ages 3 months to 2 years.

Before and after school care:
Before and after school care is offered from 7:30 to 18:00 daily.

Holiday Care:
Optional Holiday School is offered during Fall, Sport, Spring and Summer holidays.
