| | | How early would you see a doctor if you are pregnant? It is 8 or 10 weeks? Any norms
to follow ladies?
Cause I was told by my friend that sometimes the doctor can do nothing at an early stage so its not worthwhile to visit doctor any sooner. and i wonder if my insurance do cover that unnecessary early visit.
Any ideas to share? Thank you very much.

As far as I know the normal here is 8 weeks for the first check-up and ultrasound. It is covered by your basic insurance and won't come out of your franchise (so you won't have to pay a rappen).

I think I went around 6 weeks - as that's what you'd do in the UK - to confirm that your pregnant. The conversation went something like this:
"I'm here because I think I'm pregnant"
"Have you done a test?"
"Yes"
"Well then you're pregnant, congratulations."
In actual fact I'd had a little bleeding so I had an internal untrasound to check everything was OK, but this is not the norm - 8 to 10 weeks would be fine for a first visit I think.

Hi - are you the one who was fired? As I dont think under Swiss Law you can be fired if you are pregnant! might be worth a question!

I'd give your gynae a call now, they will schedule you an appt now for whenever they normally do it. I also got the stay away from cat poo, don't eat raw meat etc. spiel that they give in that first phone call. They can also send you a prescription for prenatal vitamins so that your insurance pays for them too. (You can buy them at any pharmacy but without a prescription insurance won't pay for them. Check which brands your insurance pays for too. Mine doesn't pay for the one my Dr likes to prescribe).
Congrats by the way! At 8 weeks you should already see the tiny heartbeat.

As others have said, I think 7-8 weeks is normal and good for the first visit. They will also do an internal ultrasound, so be prepared for that, but it is one of the best ways to quite accurately determine the due date (as far as I understand it, ultrasounds become increasingly unreliable and subject to much wider variations for predicting size and due date as your pregnancy progresses). My doctor even printed a photo for us of that first ultrasound at 7 weeks. And it is definitely covered by insurance, so no worries there either. Congratulations!

Congratulations
I went at 7 weeks. I guess between 6-8 is considered normal here.

Yes about being fired while knowing I am just pregnant. But that was just on the very first 4 week of pregnancy, and the talk was only between me and the boss. I wonder if he will admit he has any knowledge of that? And I was on my first two month of trial so I think he can fire me for what ever reason?

I called my doctor the day after I did a positive test and she made an appointment for later that week. Quick look with dildo-cam and a new appointment for a few weeks later down the line. Job done.
That was about 6 or 7 weeks.

I would strongly suggest scheduling an appointment as soon as you find out (or suspect) that you are pregnant. For one thing, here in CH, you need a prescription for pre-natal vitamins, and it's good to start taking those ASAP (especially for the folic acid, etc.). Also, they can help monitor you for infections, which can be common during pregnancy and pose a risk to the fetus if not detected and treated.

I am not so sure - but not the best person to know either - but if you are seeking some advice it is worth a mention. I think it doesnt matter if you are on your trial period, I think the pregnancy out-rules everything!
Oh and congratulations!

While you cannot be fired in Switzerland when you are pregnant, this sadly does not apply to the probation/trial period. You can be dismissed during the trial period even if you are pregnant. Sorry!

I would not share this until at least 12 weeks as you may have issues and/or false alarms....

Do you already have a gynecologist? If not, that's another reason to call to make an appointment as soon as possible, since a lot of them are oversubscribed and don't have appointments for new patients until a couple of months later or don't take on new patients at all.
Like other people said, they will tell you how early to come in for your first appointment.

Basically says there is no difference whether you've been there a short time or employed long-term. You are protected as a pregnant woman and cannot be dismissed. Linky. | | | | | This conflicts with government information that says you must be permanent. See the first pamphlet: http://www.seco.admin.ch/dokumentati...x.html?lang=en "Employers may not terminate a permanent employment contract either during the pregnancy of the employee or in the 16 weeks after the birth (Art. 336c section 1 section c OR). This restriction applies regardless of the reason for termination (i.e. whether it is related to the maternity or not). Protection begins from the first day of pregnancy, even if the employee did not know at the time that she was already pregnant. Protection from dismissal is then only applicable if the trial period, which can last for up to three months, has been successfully completed." It seems there is a lot of information on the subject but this indicates you are most definitely not protected during a trial period.

As for the original poster's question, I was asked to come in at 8 weeks and I received a transvaginal scan, urinalysis and some blood tests. She also took a thorough history and gave me a pap smear in the process.
If you do a search, you'll find some fab threads with doctor recommendations. It's how I found mine and so far, I'm super happy with her and her assistant. =)
Just to also add, she got me in the next day but I know from others you can sometimes have a long wait.

Sandgrounders link is for a German website. It looks like the rules are different there. | Quote: | | | | | This conflicts with government information that says you must be permanent. | | | | | |
