Pediatrician, medical assistance in Basel

Good morning to all.
Can anyone tell me which is the medical system for kids? They must have their own doctor, I supose, to monitorize him(the child).
How is this doctor get paid?
The child needs his own medical assurance or is it covered by the employeed parent?
How do you reach to a specialist for kid? Through this pediatrician?
Who makes the vaccines?
Thank you. Have a nice morning!

Re: Pediatrician, medical assistance in Basel

Hello Kenitza

You can take the little one to your own doctor (Hausarzt) or to a paediatrician (Kinderartzt). He will do all the regular checks, recommend a specialist where needed, and do all the vaccines.
Your child will need his own medical insurance card. Just contact your insurer and tell them you have a child, he will then be added on to your policy.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the doctors now invoice the insurer direct? (I've been away a while!)
Hope this helps

Usually if you are at a hospital they will invoice the insurance directly, but normal doctors will invoice the patient. The patient then has to pay and wait for the insurance to reimburse them for it.
