Which sport is good for a Dyslexic boy ?

Any recos?. Thanks
Swimming is good, for example. If he has problems with eye-hand coordination, you might want to avoid anything that has to do with balls. More likely, he will let you know what he prefers to do.

Re: DYSLEXIA. Need to learn how to deal with it. Advice?

G'day 'Sepitale',
I think that any Spost is good, as long as 'the kid' likes doing it, then let them. I played Field-Hockey for years, 'till I moved over here anyhow, then there's surfing, mountian biking, skiing (on piste and tours), climbing (actually I'm hitting the hall this arvo), Rugby, Half-Marathons etc... the sky is literally the limit. I work as a Landscape-Gardener Grünfläche Spezialist, which means I climb Trees to Prune and Fell. Anything is possible .

Cheers Malcolm

Watched a NHK documentary before, the young man became a successful architecture. The point is coping with it and exploring other talents.

Dear all, How and who can advice us as parents, on how to help a child with Dyslexia? Are there specialists or websites which you personally recommend. We are concerned, and not sure where to start. Thanks
Hello Septiale,
If you are concerned the first thing to do would be to have your child assessed by an educational psychologist. If you contact All special kids in Geneva, they have a visiting educational psychologist who tests in english. Otherwise I have some other recommendations for professionals who can test in the Lake Geneva region. Let me know if you would like me to send them to you.
The sooner your child is assessed the better, but perhaps you have already done this?
Does he or she have special help within his/her school?
There is a school for children with learning differences such as dyslexia and ADD in Nyon which takes children part time in small classes of 1 teacher to 4 students. It is a brilliant environment and the children thrive there. www.oakhill.ch

Mod Edit: The poster is related to Oakhill

I agree with swimming, my daughter (mild dylexia) is 13 yrs old and a good swimmer. She is attending a reading/writing/math therapy 2x a week aside to her normal school.

I also agree on the hand-ball coordination.

Re: DYSLEXIA. Need to learn how to deal with it. Advice?

I had recently seen a piece done on CNN about a new font designed for dyslexics. You can read an article here:

http://www.scientificamerican.com/ar...dyslexics-read

While the research is still limited, it does seem easier in general to read this specific font. You do have to buy it from the developers website though, which the article gives a link to.

In any case, it seems like at least one more avenue to research.

Here are some links to free fonts... I've just started to try them myself, so I can't really speak to their usefulness. The Dutch font is really expensive.

Also, fonts like verdana, trebuchet, comic sans (without the serifs, the little edge things) make it easier for dyslexics to read.
