Not sure about in Zurich, but you can certainly buy Aloe Vera plants, large or small, in Coop Bau & Hobby in Wettingen

I currently have 3 because mine keeps having babies...i got mine from Ikea a few years back, but I see aloe vera plants all over the place. You can try Landi or really most places you can buy plants (migros do it, coop, jumbo, etc). Or if you're ever in the Chur area, you are welcome to one of my babies |

Aloe Vera is a better option than walking around with a stinging, irritated face or all those little pieces of toilet paper stuck on your face to stop the bleeding.

In Zürich try Samen Mooser. Aloe Veras are fairly easy to keep. If you have a garden or balcony you can leave them outside during the summer but you must bring them inside for the winter as they don't like frost. Only adult plants are suitable for medicinal purposes so if that's what you want it for either buy the full sized plant or wait for it to grow. The baby plants are pretty though, so if you just want a beautiful plant consider one of those.
Despite its looks, beleive it or not, the Aloe is not actually a cactus but a distant relative of the asparagus.

Interesting post. I always have an Aloe Vera plant, for the juice. But mine just won`t breed! Sometime during the winter months it (they) just die off quietly!
I since discovered that Hauenstein Nursery specialise in sterilizing their plants so they don`t "breed" - dunno if that is actually true, but some other plants I have also don`t make babies.
So now I have a German Aloe Vera, and am waiting to see if it survives inside during winter ..... and has a kid or two....... | | This user would like to thank smoky for this useful post:

Wow. I use it for a drink actually. Can drink with water in the morning before breakfast. For example if you have got cold, it is very antiseptic and kills all viruses, at least with me. Maybe it is so because I just believe in it but it works. I would like to have a baby plant. I shall let you know if have time to visit this area, Chur. Would like to see it growing.
It just has 1 negative side-effect. It makes my metabolism faster, therefore I cannot gain extra weight while consuming it. Sad, isn^t it . Luckily I do not consume it very often.
I heard it is good for eyes, too. Let^s see. | | This user would like to thank dieBlüte for this useful post:

So did the plant survive the winter? Does anyone have babies? I am living in Baden now but can travel in Switzerland in order to get it.
I have a challenge, since I have too many white blood cells, somehow my immune system is weaker than usual. It is so strange, it should be vice versa but maybe some of them are damaged. Anyway I catch cold quite easily and aloe vera would be perfect to kill viruses and bacteria.
