Dentists, Basel or just over the border

Ok, I have a big problem with a tooth, and now after years of dodging the dentist I have to admit defeat and go, but either tomorrow or monday.

Anyone know of an emergency dentist in Basel, that doesn't hurt you too much, or one on the french side which is going to be cheaper.

Try Googling Dentiste St.Louis or something similar if you want France and not Germany.

Re: Dentists, Basel or just over the border

I've recommended many people to the practice of Dr. Santilli in Huningue:

Good english-speaking dentist in Basel?

Dr. Parker is no longer with the practice (so you'll need to be able to speak some French...) but I've been very happy with all the work I've had done there.

Re: Dentists, Basel or just over the border

I can't suggest Dr Jan Jorgensen enough. He's a fantastic dentist, will do work to your budget constraints and he's excellent with people who are a bit ..afraid of dentists. When I have the cash to see a dentist again, I'll most likely be going back to Switzerland to be treated by him - he's that good.

Dr. Jan Jorgensen
061 681 1132
Near Claraplatz opposite Manor (the door is next to the Tchibo)

Do a search on his last name here on the forum, you'll see a lot of people are quite pleased with his work.

Yes, he's generous with the whiskey while you're in the waiting room.

A great English speaking dentist in Steinvorstadt 62, 4061 Basel.
Natasha Kolesaric, she did not seem very expensive either. 061 281 47 67

Been with Dr. Jorgensen too, the staff the doctor himself are very helpful people. I've been once in Lörrach to the dentist, found a good one but the difference in terms of price was not so big, not worth the hassle.

Dr Jorgensen is your man. Seriously. I'm terrified of them, and he always found a way to distract and relax me until I got to the point where I trusted him to do what he needed to do.

Re: Dentists, Basel or just over the border

Another endorsement for Dr Joergensen here to back up Evilshell. I went to see him in October based on recommendations on other EF threads, including a comment by an American dentist in CH which I interpreted as pretty much saying it wasn't worth saving a little money for treatment that wasn't as good across the border, not due to dentists' competency but because of financial constraints.

Turned out I needed major work, but Dr Joergensen gave me all the options with full explanations of what would be done and the outcomes and comprehensive quotes. I've heard from colleagues that this is not always the case with other dentists, and initial quotes have been significantly exceeded by the necessary follow up appointments. Not so here. Dr J had explained that one of the options would be difficult for him to achieve with the complications in my particular case, but once I'd said that was what I wanted he supported the decision and as it turned out he was able to do a lot more than he'd anticipated, with very satisfactory results.

I was a bit upset because the appointment was on my birthday, but I have to say, he was brilliant and I almost enjoyed it! - I literally didn't feel a thing, it was quick, he talked to me most of the way through explaining what he was doing and telling me stories and jokes - all in perfect English by the way, and his Scottish accent during one was very good! Also, all the appointments were very timely - someone else has said they had to wait 3 weeks for an appt at this practice, but this may have been for a routine check up - when I explained my problem, the receptionist offered me the initial consultation the following day.

I've since heard that Danish dentists have a top class reputation, and I can see why.

Btw, I have had a phobia of dentists since a traumatic childhood incident involving a pair of pliers and no anaesthetic, though I have a bigger fear of losing my teeth ! Dr Joergensen completely dissolved the fear.

Probably not, if you have not had a filling by 40 your not very likely to get one, which is what my dentist said 9 years ago.
